Job description

SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Aggregate Manager, the Quarry Superintendent - Aggregates is responsible for the complete day-to-day oversight of the aggregate operation. This includes leading safety initiatives, managing the quarry, directing aggregate production and scheduling, and personnel management. The role involves coordinating all activities related to the mining and production of aggregate materials used for internal asphalt plants and external construction markets. This position is central to driving safety, quality, and operational excellence across the site.

Responsibilities:

  • Champion safe work practices and ensure strict compliance with MSHA regulations.

  • Direct and manage crushing, washing, and aggregate production to consistently meet quality specifications and production schedules.

  • Monitor and control production efficiency, budgets, and operational costs, actively identifying and implementing opportunities for improvement.

  • Oversee mine planning, site layouts, stripping operations, dewatering, haul routes, and the coordination of all subcontractor activities.

  • Manage inventory tracking and collaborate closely with the survey, accounting, and management teams.

  • Coordinate drilling and blasting operations and ensure general site maintenance needs are addressed.

  • Provide daily leadership, guidance, training, and onboarding for a field team of approximately ten employees.

  • Serve as the primary communicator with management regarding production status, site conditions, and critical operational updates.

Requirements:

  • A strong, demonstrated commitment to safety, with the ability to quickly learn and enforce MSHA requirements and company safety procedures.

  • Expertise in quarry operations, aggregate production processes, and site management.

  • Excellent communication skills and proven ability to foster effective working relationships.

  • Capacity to excel both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

  • Proficiency in basic to intermediate computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Office applications.

  • Exceptional organizational skills and time-management abilities.

  • Willingness and ability to travel locally and regionally as required.

Preferred Skills:

  • Prior experience in construction, aggregates, mining, manufacturing, or a similar industrial sector.

  • Familiarity with heavy equipment operations, production processes, or quality control methodologies

  • Experience in scheduling, supervising teams, or coordinating field operations.

  • Exposure to specialized software such as HCSS, AutoCAD, or AggFlow is helpful but not mandatory.

  • Knowledge of DOT material specifications is a plus.

  • Mechanical aptitude or hands-on experience with equipment maintenance is beneficial.
