Xpress Wellness is seeking a Director of Accounting will serve as a key leader within our healthcare organization and a strategic partner to the Controller. This role oversees day-to-day accounting operations, leads the monthly close process, and ensures accurate, timely, and compliant financial reporting.

This is a highly hands-on leadership position for a proven accounting professional who excels at managing both people and processes. The Director of Accounting will strengthen accounting operations, enhance internal controls, and drive consistency, accuracy, and operational discipline across the accounting function.


Duties and Responsibilities:

Own the Close & Financial Reporting

  • Lead the month-end close process
  • Ensure accurate and timely financial statements
  • Review journal entries, reconciliations, and support schedules
  • Deliver variance analysis and explanations for Controller review

Lead the Accounting Team

  • Manage and develop accounting staff
  • Set expectations, review work, and ensure accountability
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for day-to-day accounting issues
  • Improve team workflows, efficiency, and accuracy

Oversee Accounts Payable & Payment Runs

  • Partner with the Accounts Payable Manager to oversee AP operations
  • Review and approve weekly payment runs for accuracy and proper support
  • Ensure appropriate coding, approvals, and documentation
  • Strengthen internal controls around cash disbursements

Drive Accounting Accuracy & Process Improvement

  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls and accounting processes
  • Identify opportunities for automation and workflow improvements
  • Improve close timelines and reduce manual effort
  • Ensure consistency and integrity of accounting data

Support Technical Accounting Needs

  • Assist in resolving accounting issues and non-routine transactions
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal policies
  • Support documentation and analysis for accounting positions

Support Audit & External Requests

  • Support the annual audit led by the Controller
  • Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation
  • Respond to auditor requests and assist in issue resolution

Oversee Payroll (as applicable)

  • Oversee payroll processing for accuracy and compliance
  • Ensure proper reconciliation to the general ledger
  • Partner with HR and external payroll providers


Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Strong experience owning or leading the close process
  • Prior people management experience
  • Solid understanding of GAAP
  • Experience supporting audits
  • Experience with AP or cash disbursement processes
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • CPA or CPA track
  • Experience in a mid-sized or growing company
  • Experience improving accounting processes or systems
  • Multi-entity or multi-state experience
  • Healthcare industry related experience
