Job description

South Mill Champs is seeking a Director of Accounting & Financial Reporting to lead enterprise-wide accounting operations across multiple business units. This is a highly visible leadership role responsible for the integrity of our financial reporting, accounting operations, internal controls, and financial compliance while partnering closely with executive leadership to support strategic business decisions.

Location: Hybrid (Eligible Locations) – Candidates must be able to regularly work from one of our office locations in Kennett Square, PA; Cambridge, MD; Aldergrove, BC; or Winnipeg, MB.


What You'll Do

As our Director of Accounting & Financial Reporting, you will:

  • Lead all accounting operations, including General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, and Fixed Assets.
  • Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP while maintaining strong internal controls and accounting policies.
  • Oversee preparation of financial statements, including the balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow reporting.
  • Analyze financial performance, identify trends and variances, and provide meaningful insights that support executive decision-making.
  • Partner with Operations, Supply Chain, Sales, and other business leaders to improve financial performance.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, inventory accounting, and working capital management.
  • Drive continuous improvement by enhancing accounting processes, reporting capabilities, and operational efficiencies.
  • Develop, mentor, and inspire a high-performing accounting team while fostering a culture of accountability and collaboration.

We're looking for someone who combines strong technical accounting expertise with strategic leadership.

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • CPA or equivalent certification preferred
  • 8–12+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience
  • Experience leading accounting teams and managing financial reporting functions
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting standards
  • Experience with month-end close, consolidations, reconciliations, payroll, fixed assets, and general ledger accounting
  • Experience with inventory and cost accounting in a manufacturing, agriculture, food production, or similar operational environment is a plus
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate financial data into business recommendations
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP/accounting systems
