Job description

Director of Accounting & Financial Operations
Our client, a well-established mid-size law firm, is seeking a hands-on Director of Accounting & Financial Operations to lead and actively execute the firm’s accounting function.
This is not a purely strategic role – we’re looking for a leader who rolls up their sleeves, owns the work, and operates in the details. You’ll report to the CFO, oversee the Controller and team, and take direct responsibility for financial reporting, close processes, and budgeting. This position is onsite in Raleigh to support active team leadership and execution. Competitive salary and benefits are provided. No sponsorship or third-party arrangements are available.
What You’ll Do
  • Lead and personally engage in day-to-day accounting operations (GL, payroll, cash, trust)
  • Manage the Controller while staying closely involved in execution
  • Prepare and own financial statements, workpapers, and supporting schedules
  • Drive month-end and year-end close with accuracy and discipline
  • Build and maintain budgeting models and financial plans
  • Deliver budget vs. actuals and variance analysis
  • Establish and enforce strong documentation, review, and control processes
  • Improve accounting workflows and reporting through hands-on involvement
  • Partner with the CFO to turn strategy into clear, executable processes
What We’re Looking For
  • 10+ years of accounting experience, ideally in professional services
  • 5+ years leading teams while remaining hands-on
  • Strong background in GL accounting, financial reporting, and close processes
  • Proven ability to personally produce accurate, audit-ready financials
  • Advanced Excel skills (modeling, analysis, data validation)
  • Experience building structure and improving processes in evolving environments
  • Partnership accounting experience (preferred)
  • CPA preferred | Bachelor’s in Accounting/Finance required
Why This Role
  • True ownership of the accounting function — not just oversight
  • High-impact role with direct visibility to the CFO
  • Opportunity to build, improve, and standardize how accounting gets done
