What is the difference between Development Coordinator vs Fundraising Coordinator?

AspectDevelopment CoordinatorFundraising Coordinator
Primary FocusOverall development activities, including grants, donor relations, and program supportSpecific fundraising campaigns and events
Required SkillsFundraising, project management, communicationFundraising, event planning, donor engagement
Work EnvironmentNonprofits, educational institutions, community organizationsNonprofits, charities, advocacy groups

While both roles support nonprofit growth, a Development Coordinator handles a broader range of development activities, including grants and donor relations, whereas a Fundraising Coordinator focuses specifically on fundraising campaigns and events. The roles often overlap but differ in scope and responsibilities.

What are some common challenges faced by development coordinators when managing multiple fundraising initiatives simultaneously?

Development Coordinators often juggle several fundraising campaigns, events, and donor communications at once, which can make time management and prioritization challenging. Balancing competing deadlines while ensuring each initiative receives adequate attention requires strong organizational skills and the ability to adapt quickly to changing circumstances. Clear communication with team members and stakeholders is crucial to avoid overlaps or gaps in outreach, and utilizing donor management software can help streamline processes. Over time, these challenges can lead to valuable experience in project management and open doors to more senior roles within nonprofit development.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a development coordinator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Development Coordinator, you need strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and experience in fundraising or nonprofit administration, typically backed by a bachelor's degree in a relevant field. Familiarity with donor management systems (such as Raiser’s Edge or Salesforce), event planning software, and proficiency in Microsoft Office are commonly required. Excellent communication, relationship-building, and multitasking abilities distinguish top performers in this role. These skills are vital for effectively managing fundraising campaigns, donor relations, and ensuring the success of development initiatives.

What is a development coordinator?

A development coordinator helps organize and administer fundraising efforts for a non-profit organization. As a development coordinator, your primary duties include scheduling and planning fundraising events, monitoring staff and volunteer calendars and attendance at events, and overseeing event budgets and resources. To pursue a career as a development coordinator, you need a high school diploma or equivalent and familiarity with the non-profit sector. Some employers prefer candidates with administrative, event planning, or customer service experience.

Is being a development coordinator hard?

Being a development coordinator can be challenging as it involves managing multiple projects, coordinating with teams, and meeting fundraising or program goals. The role requires strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills, often within a fast-paced environment.

Job description

Join Amrize as a CAPEX Coordinator and help construct what's next. If you're ready to put your skills to work on projects that matter - and build a career with a company that's building North America - we want to hear from you!

ABOUT THE ROLE
The CAPEX Coordinator provides broad energy and support for capital planning and execution for all product lines, within a sub-market in Western Canada (WCAN). This role is highly integrated with a broad range of operations staff, and business leaders, and functional staff such as Finance, Procurement, Safety, and Environment. This role coordinates plant and operations assessments, equipment utilization reviews, and business case development to drive asset optimization, cost savings, and growth opportunities. This role also involves adjacent activities such as lease management and some market intelligence aspects. You will work within a team of 3 Coordinators in Western Canada, for the Western Canada Manager but may also be assigned tasks for the sub-market SVP.   This role is critical to successful growth of our businesses and to ensuring alignment with long term strategic goals.

WHAT YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH

  • Create a capital and investment budget for your submarket based on revenue and re-investment guidelines.
  • Create a clear path for sustaining capex activity as well as near and long term development activity for the submarket.
  • Own the lease list in parallel with capex with the support of the Capital Delivery team and available fleet assessments.
  • Ensure rapid delivery of projects by de-bottlenecking internal and external processes and constant problem solving.
  • Drive decision making activity throughout the organization, aligned and supported by the WCAN Capital Planning & Systems manager.
  • Consistently provide monthly progress updates as required and fully support the NA Capex360 system.
  • Often provide presentation development and support for GMs and Operation Leaders as they develop their more complex growth cases with the intent to transform our organizations into one that has the ability to develop ideas into business cases and then into reality.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Education: Bachelors Degree.
Field of Study Preferred: Engineering or Business.
Required Work Experience: 1-5 years of relevant experience in the construction or building materials industry
Required Technical Skills: Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, SAP
Travel Requirements: 20%.

Additional Requirements:

  • High entrepreneurial spirit.

  • Capable of working with minimal guidance to solve non-routine problems and present findings in a concise and professional manner.
  • Results orientated.
  • Ability to negotiate effectively with vendors.
  • Ability to identify unmet needs and provide technical solutions based on operational requirements.
  • Good interpersonal skills (e.g., active listening techniques).
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Fact-based and analytical.
  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.

WHAT WE OFFER

  • Flexible Health & Dental benefits coverage for you and your dependents

  • Perks & discounts on a variety of products and services
  • Access to online learning platforms, financial educational assistance, and a culture that fosters career growth and opportunities
  • Financial support for new parents beyond statutory benefits
  • An inclusive and welcoming environment where everyone can be themselves
  • A collaborative work culture in a supportive and team-oriented work environment
  • Company-provided personal protective equipment ensuring your safety and comfort on the job where applicable
