Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION
Interview: Onsite Interview
Shift: Monday to Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
Role focus: Legitimate clerical/administrative support within EHS
Key qualifications:
Strong Excel skills
Prior safety or EHS-related experience (this is key)
Proven reliability in administrative/clerical work
PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The EHS Assistant reports directly to the Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Leader/Site Leader at the Houston Roofing & Asphalt Plant. The position will work with leadership and plant team members across the site to support a strong proactive safety culture and an effective, efficient, and compliant safety process.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Plant and Environmental Safety
• Lives the Client Safety Stand and meets all safety requirements. Safety is a condition of employment.
• Take personal ownership to work safely and hold other team members to the same high standards of safety
• Notify supervisor immediately of any accident, near miss or on- the -job injury when it occurs no matter how insignificant it may seem.
• Participates in the safety, quality, autonomous maintenance, TPM and housekeeping programs as established within the plant; including but not limited to Focused Improvement Events, Safety Committee, Training, etc.
• Performs job tasks to reduce environmental impact and adheres to the environmental regulations and recycling procedures for waste disposal.
• Complies with all plant rules and safety regulations.
• Performs cleanup duties at workstations and/or equipment/machinery.
• Communicates safety concerns and/or equipment problems/abnormalities to appropriate personnel, maintaining strong communication with the appropriate line section operators to ensure immediate action is taken for product out of spec.
• Inspect vehicles (including PIVs, golf carts, etc.) before use and throughout shift, keeping all equipment clean and operational.
TPM
• Participates in plant TPM initiatives - completing activities associated with TPM tasks (adheres to CILT standard, 5S).
• Continues to use TPM methodology to gain a better understanding of the equipment.
• Identifies and participates proactively in learning opportunities and develops expertise in those areas.
• Utilizes Focus Improvement tools to problem solve.
• Works to achieve zero injuries, zero defects and zero losses.
• During PM days, uses time effectively to bring equipment to optimal condition for zero losses.
• ssists with teaching about DM and Step Boards.
Safety
• Spend time on the floor, look for safety hazards, and talking with employees
• ssist operators and maintenance with new/modified process & equipment
• Conduct facility safety audits and monitor auditing process to verify compliance
• ssist/coordinate resolution of safety cards, Behavior Based Safety Observations, hazard hunts, and safety work orders
• Perform and document assessments, inspections, audits, and investigations: SPCC, SWPPP, VPP, LTT, Contractor, Safe Work, Guarding, Arc Flash, etc.
• Maintain 1st Aid/CPR/AED training focusing on advanced training to be able to assist at a higher level as needed
• Maintain EH&S tracking spreadsheets, SharePoint sites, logs, and communication boards (and post in operations areas according to schedule/needs)
• Provide regular feedback to leadership, supervisors, and operators on safety programs, training results, and completion statuses
• Provide visitor, contractor, and new hire safety orientation including delivering and grading quizzes and examinations.
• Track, issue, audit, and update permits (internal and external) and review
• Issue, monitor, review, and update in-house permits. Monitor, review, and update regulatory permits
• Issue, Monitor, and Participate in Safety Awareness for Effectiveness (SAFE) and Critical 6 Programs
• Inventory, issue, coordinate and track EHS-related items/vouchers: PPE, LTT locks, MSDS, safety glass program, safety shoes, etc.
• MSDS review of new chemicals (Right to Know)
• ccomplish critical metrics regularly to ensure continuous improvement in the processes that lead to a 100% engaged safety culture on the floor
• Participate in Safety Committees, VPP teams, and JHA/RCA/SOP activities
Environmental
• Collect data, assist with, and file reports for storm water DMR, waste, Tier II, water board, TRI, emissions, GACT, etc.
• Storm Water Inspections
• Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure Inspections
• Circle chart reviewing/correcting
• Environmental PM's completed and filed
• other environmental tasks as assigned
Other
• Demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate.
• Support the training and development of colleagues.

• Regular Attendance on site. Mostly days shift, with some afternoons or nights depending on need.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience
• High School Diploma or GED equivalence
• Computer proficiency with Word, Excel and PowerPoint is preferred
• Basic mechanical knowledge and TPM Methodology
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Proficiently demonstrate math and communication skills

• Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Word
• Maintain certifications and skill sets necessary to train employees

• Must be self-motivated to work independently and in a group, and meet targets
• Must have strong attention to detail
• Visual acuity necessary for interpreting and updating diagrams, taking emissions readings
