Position Overview 

The Depot Manager oversees shipping, receiving, and warehouse operations at SubCom depots. It's a hands-on leadership role that combines logistics management, equipment operation, and facility oversight, with a strong emphasis on safety, accuracy, and operational efficiency. 

Responsibilities 

  • Operations & Logistics
    • Manage cable movements for SubCom and non-SubCom vessels. 
    • Oversee loading/unloading using cranes, forklifts and other equipment. 
    • Coordinate cable transfers across domestic and international depots.
    • Supervise and direct stevedores (dock workers). 
  • Availability & Travel
    • Be on-call 24/7 for emergencies or urgent operations.
    • Travel (~40%) to support global depot activities and cable handling.
  • Inventory & Customer Management
    • Maintain accurate records of incoming/outgoing materials.
    • Manage customer inventory tracking. 
    • Create cost estimates and review project billing. 
    • Manage storage agreements. 
  • Facilities & Asset Management
    • Oversee maintenance of: 
      • Depot Buildings
      • Equipment (cranes, forklifts)
      • Grounds
    • Plan and schedule preventive maintenance. 
  • Financial Oversight
    • Manage budgets for depot operations. 
    • Ensure cost efficiency while maintaining service quality. 
  • Compliance & Safety
    • Ensure all operations follow company policies and safety standards. 
    • Maintain integrity in all business practices.

Qualifications

  • Associates' or Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (preferred). 
  • Experience with or exposure to cable installation/operations. 
  • Ability to manage laborers and supervise operational teams (e.g. stevedores, warehouse staff). 
  • Strong leadership and coordination skills in a hands-on work environment. 
  • Ability to safely operate or be trained in cranes and forklifts.
  • Able to possess a Fit for Duty Exam for international travel. 
  • Willing and able to travel up to 40% of the time.
