In RDPI, we have the unique role and privilege of deploying leading edge industrial robotics and customer fulfillment technologies across North America Stores operations. We raise the bar on the speed, quality and cost of deploying industrial technologies at scale across North America, functioning as the field team who plan, execute and launch the technologies that our internal design and product strategy partners in RDPI develop. Project durations vary from a few days to several months, with travel across North America.

This is a travel-based role and you will be expected to travel to meet the requirements of your projects across North America, upwards of 75% or more.
As a Systems Engineer in RDPI, you will be overseeing large scale project planning, installation, and launch of industrial automation technologies across Amazons growing Stores network. This field engineering position demands strong technical skills for deploying robotic equipment, including mechanical and electrical systems, network configurations, and software coordination.

The ideal candidate has experience with complex electro-mechanical and network systems, demonstrating leadership in installation, maintenance, upgrades, and troubleshooting of technologies being deployed across North America. You will work with cross-functional partners across our engineering, product strategy, software, supply chain, third-party installers, contracted deployment engineers, construction teams, and internal operations customer teams, functioning as the lead on-site project manager to provide technical oversight on installation Amazon-designed automation equipment. This Systems Engineer position is an individual contributor role, influencing and leading stakeholders from planning through go-live of each project.

Candidates should have a proven track record of successfully leading multiple concurrent projects across one or more automation solutions.
**Relocation to Amazon Corporate offices in Seattle, Boston, Nashville or Austin will be required for the role.
Key job responsibilities
As a Systems Engineer I, you will work with a team of 1-5 engineers and collaborate with an on-site project manager to provide technical oversight on the installation of both third party and Amazon designed robotics equipment that may be in various phases of the product life cycle.

These deployments require extensive collaboration with various stakeholders, including third-party installers, contracted engineers, construction, hardware, software, IT, and other partner teams. Strong communication skills are essential for interacting with both internal and external partners and customers. As an Amazonian, you must demonstrate independent initiative to identify and solve problems in real time during deployments.

A strong technical understanding, love for field work, and a keen interest in diving deep into the understanding of Amazon's robotics systems are key attributes for this role.
- You will support and guide installation of robotics, packaging and sortation technologies at Amazon fulfillment centers
- You will develop detailed knowledge of the operation of robotic systems and guide installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of these systems both on site and remotely
- You will manage technical ambiguity around integration of work cells in fulfillment centers
- You will collaborate with hardware engineering, technical program managers, product managers, and internal customers including site maintenance and operations teams
- You will travel to project sites and collaborate both virtually and in person to ensure all business stakeholders are aligned on program status
- You will manage day to day project scheduling and budget management
- You will work on continuous improvement activities to improve the projects in your space
- You will generate and implement continuous improvement ideas around work-scopes
- You will lead teams of other engineers on projects
- You will travel to both live warehouses and new construction sites, the scopes may vary significantly in length and include heavy travel
- You will travel to project sites across North America, upwards of 75% or more
A day in the life
In this role you will be focused on execution of end-to-end deployment and manage technical ambiguity around integration of workcells in fulfillment centers. On a daily basis you will collaborate with hardware engineering, technical program managers, product managers, and internal customers including site maintenance and operations teams, to ensure the product you are deploying, is both ready for deployment and capable of achieving the business requirements.

You will travel to your project sites, collaborate both virtually and in person, to ensure all business stakeholders are aligned on program status. You will manage the day-to-day project execution, and work on continuous improvement activities to improve the projects in your space. You will spend time with mentors and your manager to develop your professional skills and collaborate amongst your team to move the needle on the services you are accountable for.
