Job description

Controller amp; Accounting Department Director

CLASSIFICATION: Exempt

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION: The Controller amp; Accounting Department Director is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of the financial statements and being a trusted financial voice for investors in guiding the company’s financial strength. The Controller reports directly to the CEO and also provides financial leadership directly to the Finance Committee.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Ensures accuracy of financial statements overall.
2. Takes responsibility that reported revenue numbers are correct, including write-offs, collections, accounts receivable, and contractual allowances.
3. Annual budget preparation and review.
4. Ensure compliance with financially related health care laws, audit, and bond covenants.
5. Reviews and make recommendations targeted for profit and distributions.
6. Reviews and provides guidance for debt structure and feasibility analysis.
7. Provides agenda, schedule, and staff leadership of Finance Committee in coordination with Chairman and governing body.
8. Prepare tax and financial statements.
9. Perform system reconciliations between various systems (e.g., EMR system, accounting system, payroll system, inventory system, cash reconciliations).
10. Maintains worksheets tracking buy-ins and buy-outs.
11. Works with materials manager on inventory system to ensure valuation and reconciliation with financial statements.
12. Provides financial reporting to department managers.
13. Reviews invoice coding, payroll reports, monthly accruals, GAAP entries.
14. Prepares work papers for audit.
15. Manages cash flow for payment of invoices, payroll payments and distributions.
16. Assists with leading departmental meetings, which help to formulate policies, procedures and program development.
17. Assists with the training and development of employees to the department.
18. Represents the department at monthly leadership meetings.
19. Brings employee concerns and suggestions to meetings or directly to Human Resources.
20. Responsible for communicating Ohio Valley initiatives, employee communication and safety concerns to the department.
21. Assists with the continuous improvement of the most efficient workflows for the accounting department.
22. Acts as a director for accounting department personnel.
23. Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Minimum of five (5) years’ progressive related effective and successful management experience.
2. Ability to manage staff and work well at all levels of the organization.
3. Very knowledgeable of GAAP and accounting rules.
4. Willingness and ability to take ownership of numbers.
5. Strong software skills: able to understand the inner workings of software and checking the validity and integrity of data that is reported via the software.
6. Ability to work with tax professionals and to understand complex tax implications for the Hospital and investors given varied business strategies.
7. Strong understanding of hospital entities, structures, and options.
8. Team player with a positive attitude
9. Provides data and reporting for government reporting, cost reports, for contracted services TSI, and Sports Medicine.
10. Evaluation and planning skills.
11. Advanced written and oral communication skills.
12. Strong planning and organizational skills, having the ability to handle multiple tasks independently with accuracy, speed, and composure.
13. Time management and project management skills.

16. CPA and equivalent public accounting or private company experience in similar field
