Job description

Job Summary
The Senior Estimator is part of the Get Work Team at Delphi, working in close collaboration with Marketing and Business Development to support our Construction Operations teams with excellent projects.
As part of the Senior Estimator role, you contribute to the development of prospective and awarded project estimates, budgets, trade work scopes and trade partner contract development.
You also contribute to planning, scheduling and procurement strategies and process implementation. The Senior Estimator provides leadership for junior estimating staff as directed by the Estimating Manager.

Responsibilities
Estimating
  • Participates in preparation of project estimates for prospective and awarded work.
  • Provides analysis of project requirements, schedules, plans, specifications, contracts, and other data that informs bid package content.
  • Engages in information gathering processes required to develop internal or subcontractor estimates for Client and subcontractor RFIs; material sources and evaluations; and quantity take-offs.
  • Solicits subcontractors and vendors' interest in and response to bid requests.
  • Participates in the development and assembly of bid packages.
  • Assists in critical evaluation of subcontractor and vendor bids inclusive of time, cost, material, and manpower proposed for supply of trade services or products.
  • Directs or engages in information gathering processes required to develop internal or subcontractor estimates for Owner and subcontractor RFIs; material sources and evaluations; and quantity take-offs.
  • Ensures that the best bids are obtained for each trade, based on the needs of the project with a minimum of 5 bids per trade.
  • Provides critical evaluation of subcontractor and vendor bids inclusive of time, cost, material, and manpower proposed for supply of trade services or products.
  • Provides oversight for estimators for particular assignments, projects or trades
  • Provides mentoring for junior staff

Subcontractor and Vendor Network Development
  • Contributes to subcontractor and vendor database upkeep through research and networking
  • Participates in the subcontractor prequalification and qualification renewal process.

Required Skills/Abilities
  • Ability to meet deadlines for milestones and deliverables
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Thorough understanding of contracts, plans, specifications, and regulations.
  • Ability to remain flexible and efficient in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to make intelligent and quick decisions, work well under pressure, and when faced with unexpected occurrences or delays.
  • Ability to effectively multitask while analyzing and solving problems.

Education and Experience
  • 10+ years' experience in construction estimating, preferably with a general construction company.
  • 3 years' field experience preferred
  • Vast knowledge of all trades: scope, timeframes/field execution, typical missed scope/exposures and an understanding of MEP systems and components
