What is data modernization?

Data modernization is the process of updating and transforming legacy data systems and infrastructure to more current, scalable, and efficient technologies. It often involves migrating data to cloud platforms, implementing new data management tools, and adopting modern analytics practices to improve data accessibility and decision-making.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in Data Modernization projects?

Professionals in Data Modernization often encounter challenges such as integrating legacy systems with modern cloud-based solutions, ensuring data quality during migration, and managing data security and compliance. Additionally, they may need to collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to align business goals with technical requirements. Adaptability and strong communication skills are important, as priorities can shift rapidly in response to evolving business needs and technology updates.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in Data Modernization, and why are they important?

To thrive in Data Modernization, you need strong expertise in data architecture, cloud platforms, and data migration, often supported by a degree in computer science or information systems. Familiarity with tools like Azure, AWS, Snowflake, ETL frameworks, and certifications such as AWS Certified Data Analytics or Microsoft Azure Data Engineer are commonly required. Excellent problem-solving, project management, and communication skills help professionals effectively lead transformation initiatives and collaborate with stakeholders. These skills are crucial for ensuring seamless migration, maximizing data value, and driving innovation within organizations.

Which 3 jobs will survive AI?

Data modernization roles such as data engineers, data architects, and database administrators are likely to persist as they require specialized knowledge of data systems, architecture, and security that AI cannot fully replicate. These jobs involve designing, managing, and securing complex data environments, often requiring certifications and hands-on expertise. Skills in data governance, cloud platforms, and programming remain essential for these positions.

Job description

Tiger Analytics is an advanced analytics consulting firm. We are the trusted analytics partner for several Fortune 100 companies, enabling them to generate business value from data. Our consultants bring deep expertise in Data Science, Machine Learning, and AI. Various market research firms, including Forrester and Gartner, have recognised our business value and leadership. We solve complex analytical problems at scale and have built a reputation for delivering valuable data-driven solutions across various industries, including Pharma and Life Sciences.
We are seeking a senior-level Technical Program Manager to lead a large-scale operational modernization and technology transformation initiative. This role will focus on driving execution, governance, and coordination across multiple technical and operational workstreams related to cloud modernization, data platforms, analytics enablement, and operational systems transformation.
The company is currently evolving from a more traditional BI-heavy and siloed reporting environment into a modern AWS-centric data ecosystem. Their broader technology direction includes Databricks, AWS S3, Redshift, Athena, Power BI, Apache Iceberg, and more modern streaming and analytics capabilities. AWS is heavily involved in the initiative alongside engineering/data teams.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience managing enterprise-scale programs involving cloud technologies, analytics, AI/ML initiatives, and cross-functional stakeholder management in complex operational environments.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Lead end-to-end program execution across multiple technical and business workstreams.
  • Drive governance, planning, prioritization, risk management, and stakeholder communication for enterprise modernization initiatives.
  • Coordinate with internal engineering, data, analytics, operations, and executive leadership teams.
  • Manage collaboration across external vendors, consulting partners, cloud providers, and internal delivery teams.
  • Oversee cloud and data modernization initiatives including analytics enablement, operational reporting, forecasting, and visualization solutions.
  • Support modernization of enterprise data ecosystems leveraging cloud technologies and modern analytics platforms.
  • Drive delivery of operational analytics, AI/ML, and business intelligence initiatives aligned with business objectives.
  • Manage multi-workstream technical programs involving infrastructure modernization, operational systems, and enterprise analytics platforms.
  • Track program milestones, budgets, dependencies, risks, and implementation timelines.
  • Facilitate executive-level reporting, governance reviews, and strategic planning discussions.
  • Ensure successful execution within highly operational, fast-paced, and cross-functional enterprise environments.
  • Preferred experience working in operationally complex industries such as energy, utilities, infrastructure, manufacturing, transportation, or supply chain environments.
  • Experience collaborating with cloud providers, enterprise consulting partners, and distributed engineering/data teams.
  • Exposure to operational analytics, forecasting, scheduling, enterprise planning, and reporting systems is highly preferred.

Requirements
  • 10+ years of experience in Technical Program Management, Project Portfolio Management, or Enterprise Program Delivery.
  • Strong experience leading enterprise cloud transformation or data modernization programs.
  • Proven expertise managing large-scale, multi-workstream technical initiatives.
  • Experience driving AI/ML, analytics, business intelligence, or data engineering programs.
  • Strong stakeholder management and executive communication skills.
  • Experience managing consulting-led, vendor-heavy, or outsourced delivery engagements.
  • Ability to work effectively across engineering, operations, analytics, and leadership teams.
  • Experience with Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid project delivery methodologies.
  • Preferred experience with modern cloud and analytics technologies including AWS, Databricks, Amazon S3, Redshift, Athena, Power BI, Apache Iceberg, and modern data platform technologies.
  • Familiarity with cloud engineering, data engineering, analytics platforms, and enterprise modernization initiatives is highly preferred.

Benefits
Significant career development opportunities exist as the company grows. The position offers a unique opportunity to be part of a small, fast-growing, challenging, and entrepreneurial environment, with a high degree of individual responsibility.
Tiger Analytics provides equal employment opportunities to applicants and employees without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, pregnancy, national origin, ancestry, marital status, protected veteran status, disability status, or any other basis as protected by federal, state, or local law.
