Job Summary
Under general supervision, the AMI Data Analyst is responsible for performing Validation, Estimation, and Editing (VEE) reviews and Sync Processing Evaluation Audit Report (SPEAR) data to ensure accurate and complete meter reads are available for billing. This role plays a critical part in identifying, correcting, and preventing data anomalies-such as null reads, duplicate entries, and communication gaps-through daily monitoring and reporting. The AMI Data Analyst collaborates with the AMI departmental staff and field operations teams to prepare raw datasets, support quality investigations, and track recurring data quality issues. This position directly supports billing accuracy, customer service responsiveness, and operational efficiency.
Responsibilities
AMI Data Analyst
Perform daily Validation, Estimation, and Editing (VEE) and Sync Processing Evaluation Audit Report (SPEAR) reviews to ensure valid meter reads for billing. Assist with compiling reports and data summaries for internal teams. Support billing exception resolution by validating data across systems. Maintain documentation of recurring data issues and standard workflows. Completes other job duties as assigned.
Senior AMI Data Analyst (in addition to the duties listed above)
May provide guidance and training to department staff. Conduct detailed trend analysis, data reconciliation, and exception identification. Automate recurring reports and assist with data cleansing efforts. Serve as the primary point of contact for moderate data integrity projects.
Lead AMI Data Analyst (in addition to the duties listed above)
Provides leadership, guidance, work assignments, training, and occasional supervision to less experienced staff. Oversee daily operations and system health KPIs for the team. Serve as liaison between AMI support and other departments on data-related needs. Design intermediate dashboards or workflows for recurring analytics tasks.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Utility metering systems, including AMI, MDMS, and HES platforms. Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint. Knowledge of CIS Utility billing systems and data flow. Working knowledge of both electric and water metering systems. Strong oral and written communication skills in English. Diagnosing data issues and validating large data sets. Problem Solving skills. Communicating technical insights to non-technical audiences. Analyze and interpret complex datasets with attention to detail. Ability to lead and manage data-focused projects and initiatives (Senior and Lead levels). Strong ability to train and mentor others (Lead level). Ability to work evenings and weekends in response to needs of the systems being supported.
Education & Experience Requirements
AMI Data Analyst
Associate's Degree in Computer Science/Information Technology, Data Analytics, Business Administration or related field. High school diploma or GED and three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in data analytics, AMI systems, or metering may substitute for the Associate's Degree.
Senior AMI Data Analyst
One (1) additional year of relevant work experience is required.
Lead AMI Data Analyst
Two (2) additional years of progressively responsible work experience are required.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Requires a valid Texas Driver License or receipt of a valid Texas Driver License within 90 days of relocation to Texas and a safe driving record, as measured by company policy.
Senior AMI Data Analyst (in addition to requirements listed above)
Requires at least one (1) of the following:
Google Data Analytics
CompTIA Data+
Lead AMI Data Analyst (in addition to all requirements listed above)
Requires the following certification:
Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst Associate
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Overall physical condition to work at floor level or on top of structures at 60 plus feet above ground is required. Must be able to manipulate loads up to 50 lbs. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions such as extremely cold or hot temperatures.
