Job description

About Us

CurbWaste is a venture-backed, early-stage vertical SaaS company on a mission to modernize the waste and recycling industry. Our customers are hard-working, no-frills operators running complex businesses with limited tools. We're here to change that.

With $50M raised and the backing of top-tier investors, we serve over 150 customers who rely on CurbWaste's all-in-one solution to power their operations. But we're just getting started. Our ambition is to become the system of record for the waste industry and support the people who keep our cities running.

At CurbWaste, we hold a high bar. We believe in trust, ownership, and a relentless focus on delivering value. We live by values that shape how we show up:

  • Serve our customers, serve our industry
  • Be infinitely curious
  • Resourcefulness over resources
  • Win as a team, learn as a team
  • Do the 1% more

About the Role

You're someone who finds messy data interesting, not intimidating. You know that a clean migration is the difference between a customer who loves their go-live and one who starts their journey on the back foot. And you want to build the process, not just execute inside someone else's.

This is CurbWaste's first dedicated Data Migration Specialist role. You'll own the data side of every new customer onboarding, working alongside our Implementation Managers to get each customer's data out of their legacy waste hauling software and into CurbWaste accurately, completely, and on time. You'll use Rubie, our purpose-built data migration platform, alongside our internal admin portal, SQL, Javascript, Python, and Excel to run migrations from start to finish.

You'll also support live customers when data issues surface post-go-live, and partner with our platform engineers to improve the tooling and scripts that power every migration we run.

This isn't a maintenance role. You're building the function from scratch. That means creating the templates, the mapping standards, the documentation, and the process that will scale with us as we grow. If you want to inherit a polished playbook, this isn't the right fit. If you want to write it, keep reading.

Requirements

What You'll Do

  • Own data migration end-to-end for all new CurbWaste and CurbPOS customers, from initial data collection through post-load validation and customer sign-off
  • Conduct pre-migration data audits to identify integrity issues, duplicates, null fields, and format mismatches before they become go-live blockers
  • Work directly with customers to gather source data exports, explain data requirements, and manage expectations around timelines and quality
  • Build and maintain formal source-to-target field mapping documents for every source system you work with
  • Audit, clean, map, and transform customer data from legacy waste hauling and field service platforms using Rubie, SQL, JavaScript, Python, Excel, and CurbWaste's admin portal
  • Execute imports and validate accuracy at the field, row, and dataset level before every go-live
  • Obtain formal customer sign-off on migrated data prior to go-live and document any accepted discrepancies
  • Partner with platform engineers to maintain existing migration scripts and build new ones as product features and service lines expand
  • Collaborate with Product and Engineering on admin portal updates and data-related tooling improvements
  • Document every source system you work with, including field mappings, known quirks, edge cases, and reusable transformation logic, so future migrations get faster
  • Support the Customer Experience team with data-related requests for accounts that are already live
  • Identify patterns across migrations and surface recommendations to reduce manual effort, improve tooling, and tighten the overall process
  • Maintain accurate migration status across all active accounts in Planhat and communicate blockers proactively to Implementation Managers

What You'll Need

  • 4-6 years of experience in data migration, data onboarding, or a closely related hands-on data role at a SaaS company
  • Strong SQL skills, including writing queries to extract, transform, and validate data across different schemas and database structures
  • Advanced Excel proficiency, including VLOOKUPs, Power Query, pivot tables, data validation, and comfort working with large, messy datasets
  • JavaScript or Python experience (Pandas or equivalent) for writing transformation scripts, automating repetitive data tasks, and contributing to migration tooling
  • Familiarity with version control, specifically using Git to manage and share migration scripts
  • Proven ability to conduct thorough data validation, including row count reconciliation, referential integrity checks, null and duplicate analysis, and field-level spot checks
  • Experience building source-to-target field mapping documents and reusable data migration templates
  • Direct experience migrating data from legacy software platforms in field service, logistics, operations, or waste hauling industries
  • Proven ability to work directly with customers to collect data, manage expectations, and communicate clearly on timelines and blockers in non-technical terms
  • Ability to collaborate with engineers, speak to technical requirements, and contribute meaningfully to script development and tooling conversations
  • Comfort working in a scripted migration workflow environment using lightweight tooling, SQL, Javascript and Python rather than enterprise ETL platforms
  • Strong attention to detail with a track record of delivering accurate, validated data under deadline pressure across multiple concurrent migrations
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field preferred

Nice to Have

  • Direct experience with waste hauling or waste management software platforms
  • Experience with Rubie or similar data migration tooling
  • Experience with customer success or implementation platforms, including Planhat, Gainsight, or GuideCX
  • Familiarity with support and communication tools such as Intercom, Aircall, or Fathom
  • Experience using Jira for task tracking and cross-functional project coordination
  • Background in field service, logistics, or operations software
  • Experience building or improving a migration function from the ground up, not just executing within an established one

Benefits

Compensation

$95,000 - $115,000 annually, based on experience, plus equity. Salary ranges reflect our commitment to competitive, transparent pay.

What We Offer

  • Be the first person to own this function at CurbWaste, with a real path to grow into a lead role as we scale
  • Work directly with the Head of Implementation and our engineering team on problems that matter every single day
  • Competitive salary, equity grant, and flexible time off
  • Company-paid medical, dental, and vision coverage, plus 401k
  • A culture that rewards ownership, curiosity, and the people who do the 1% more

Location

This role is based in New York City (3 days/week minimum in office).

Our Mission

We aim to change the way waste companies run their business. We're a software company founded by haulers and built for haulers. We care about the environment and want to play a positive role in the future of the waste industry. Software helps create solutions, and we are focused on being the leaders in change.

At CurbWaste, we celebrate individuality and uniqueness. We believe that the convergence of fresh perspectives and experiences from all walks of life is what makes our product and culture so great. We strongly encourage people from underrepresented groups to apply. We do not discriminate against employees based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, gender identity or expression, age, disability, pregnancy (including childbirth, breastfeeding, or related medical condition), genetic information, protected military or veteran status, sexual orientation, or any other characteristic protected by applicable federal, state or local laws.
