Job description

Position Summary

The enterprise master patient index (EMPI) is a critical business function and patient safety resource across the Stony Brook Medicine health system. The source system MPI must contain accurate, timely, and complete data to facilitate a single enterprise unique identifier (EUID) for each patient registered across the continuum. 

Under the direction of the EMPI Data Integrity Manager, the EMPI Data Integrity Analyst will utilize daily reports and work queues to identify potential duplicate medical records and data integrity issues in the Stony Brook University Hospital registration system. This includes remediation of duplicate medical record numbers, medical record overlays and assisting with correction of demographic information.

Qualified candidates will demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, knowledge and understanding of patient care and effectively make decisions based on ethical principles and adhering to our high standard of excellence.

Duties of an EMPI Data Integrity Analyst may include the following, but are not limited to:

  • Provides resolution of urgent MPI duplicate/overlay errors impacting patient care.
  • Performs investigation and resolution of non-emergent errors concerning potential duplicates using daily reports and task queues.
  • Understands the Stony Brook University Hospital master patient index and the impact on downstream systems as well as the Enterprise master patient index.
  • Ability to search databases and use critical thinking to discern correct patient demographic information in accordance with established procedures.
  • Communicates with departments throughout SBUH and physician practices to facilitate MPI merges and demographic correction resolution
  • Maintains statistical data of same system medical record merges and point of origin/root cause reporting for Data Integrity Manager and senior leadership.
  • Assists manager in process improvement activities, as well as the testing and implementation of product upgrades and enhancements.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of hospital registration, HIM or HIT experience. Demonstrated excellence in verbal and written communication, computing and data investigational skills. Candidate must demonstrate experience and expertise in speaking with interdisciplinary stakeholders, department leadership and staff.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Access.
  • Demonstrated experience with statistical data collection to support trend reporting.
  • Experience working with hospital information systems (Cerner, preferred).

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Master's degree, with 3 years of hospital system experience in Patient Access, HIM or HIT related functions.
  • Experience in preparing meaningful statistical data reporting.
  • Prior participation in system implementation/enhancement quality reviews

Anticipated Pay Range:

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position is $72,140 - $87,938 / year.

The above salary range represents SBUH's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.  The specific salary offer will be based on the candidate's validated years of comparable experience.  Any efforts to inflate or misrepresent experience are grounds for disqualification from the application process or termination of employment if hired.

Some positions offer annual supplemental pay such as:

  • Location pay for UUP full-time positions ($4,000).
