What is a Data Conversion Analyst?

A Data Conversion Analyst is a professional responsible for transferring, transforming, and validating data when organizations move data between systems, databases, or formats. They analyze source and target data structures, create mapping documents, and ensure data integrity throughout the conversion process. Data Conversion Analysts also identify data quality issues, resolve inconsistencies, and may develop scripts or use specialized tools to automate data migration tasks. Their work is crucial during system upgrades, mergers, or implementation of new software to ensure business continuity and accuracy.

What Does a Data Conversion Analyst Do?

A data conversion analyst is a job in the computer science industry with a focus on database management systems. Your responsibilities in this career revolve around working with clients to convert data between different formats. Sometimes this conversion is to make the data compatible with a different system. Other times, it may be to make the information more accessible and user-friendly. Regardless, your duties as a data conversion analyst are to determine the specifications needed to transfer data from one format to another, test the conversion process to ensure that data is corruption-free, and provide resolutions to any errors or issues that may occur. You may also create a process for converting data and then train another employee to complete the process en masse.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Data Conversion Analyst, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Data Conversion Analyst, you need strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a background in data management or computer science, often supported by a relevant degree. Familiarity with ETL tools, SQL, data mapping software, and sometimes certifications in data analytics or specific platforms are typically expected. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and project management skills help you collaborate with teams and address data migration challenges. These skills are vital to ensure accurate, efficient data transfers and minimize errors during system implementations or upgrades.

What are the typical challenges faced during large-scale data migration projects as a Data Conversion Analyst?

Data Conversion Analysts often encounter challenges such as ensuring data integrity, dealing with legacy systems, and mapping data accurately between different platforms. It is common to handle incomplete or inconsistent data, which requires strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Collaboration with IT, business stakeholders, and end-users is essential to clarify requirements and validate converted data. Effective communication and thorough testing are key to minimizing disruptions during the migration process.

Job description

About Vouch:
Vouch is the insurance broker that powers ambition.
We're a tech-enabled insurance advisory and brokerage purpose-built for growing companies in technology, life sciences, and professional services. Our clients are ambitious leaders building complex businesses, and we help them manage risk with tailored advice, smart coverage, and responsive service.
Backed by over $200M from world-class investors, Vouch combines deep industry expertise with AI-powered tools to deliver a better insurance experience. Our digital workflows reduce friction, speed up decisions, and give our clients the confidence to move faster.
Why should you join our team and Vouch?
Not only is this an exciting and growing team where you can drive a real impact on our operational scalability, but Vouch is also the preferred insurance provider to customers of Y Combinator, Brex, Carta, and WeWork. We're a quickly growing startup that believes in transparency and acknowledgment with our team members and cultivating a values-driven company. Our values are "Be Client Obsessed", "Own it together", "Act with integrity and empathy", "Stay Curious and Grow", and "Empower People."
What does a work environment look like at Vouch?
Vouch has employees located across the U.S., with offices in San Francisco, Chicago, and New York City. While this role has hybrid work flexibility, we require team members to be in the office at least three days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) to foster close collaboration and team building.
Role Responsibilities:
At Vouch, we believe risk management should unlock big bets, not block them - and data is how we keep getting better at it. As Senior Data Analyst for our GTM team, you'll be the analytical engine that helps us win: turning data into the insight that sharpens how we advise, broker and grow. And when our team wins, our clients win - getting the expertise, clarity, and confidence to focus on building what's next. You'll own that work end-to-end, from the first business question to the dashboards the team relies on every day.
What You'll Do:
  • Provide analytical leverage to Horizon leadership
    • Develop an advanced understanding of Vouch's business model and its drivers, with deep focus on the Horizon business unit
    • Act as the analytical right hand to Horizon leadership, surfacing the insights they need to optimize their sales motion, improve conversion rates, and accelerate pipeline, etc.
    • Build and maintain the dashboards leadership relies on for financial and operational tracking (e.g., progress to financial targets, progress to quota, pipeline health, etc.) so the team always knows where it stands
    • Perform analyses (e.g., funnel analytics, multitouch attribution, conversion, segmentation, etc.) to pinpoint where deals stall, which channels and touches drive wins, and where the motion can be improved
    • Tie analyses and recommendations back to core business metrics (e.g., revenue, conversion rates, retention, etc.)
  • Define the metrics and partner to build the right data foundation
    • Conduct discovery with stakeholders across GTM, Finance, RevOps, and leadership to identify the data and metrics they need to answer their business questions
    • Propose standardized metric definitions and drive buy-in across stakeholders
    • Translate business questions into clear data and instrumentation requirements, and partner closely with Engineering to get the right event tracking and data models built and maintained
    • Build the analysis layer on top (e.g., analytical frameworks, dashboards, and self-serve reporting in Salesforce and Mode, etc.), and document metric definitions and logic clearly for scalability and reuse
  • Lead data projects from discovery to activation and post-launch, in collaboration with a cross-functional team across GTM, Finance, Product, Engineering

About You:
Foundations
  • 3-6 years in a data analyst, GTM data analyst, RevOps data analyst, SalesOps data analyst, consultant or equivalent quantitative analytical role
  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in statistics, math, economics, computer science, finance, or equivalent practical experience
  • Eager to learn new tools and continually sharpen your technical skill set

You turn data into leverage for leaders
  • Hands-on experience with funnel analytics, multitouch attribution, conversion, and segmentation, etc.
  • A strategic thinker who understands business drivers and can translate analysis into recommendations leaders act on
  • Strong communication and data storytelling skills - you can explain complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences

You build on a rigorous data foundation
  • Advanced SQL, experience with BI tools (Mode, Tableau, Looker), and familiarity with data transformation tools (dbt)
  • Fluent in Salesforce and HubSpot data models, and comfortable working with the data behind pipeline, sales, and revenue
  • Skilled at gathering business requirements, defining metrics, and structuring problems

You own outcomes as a partner
  • A proven collaborator, effective in cross-functional teams and multi-stakeholder environments
  • Grit: proactive, goal-oriented, purpose-driven, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment

Nice To Have:
  • Insurance or financial services background
  • Exposure to, and passion for, early-stage startups and/or high-growth environments
  • Prior experience partnering directly with GTM, RevOps, and Finance teams

Vouch provides several benefits to help you bring your best self to work:
