Job description

Data Catalog Administrator

We are seeking a skilled Data Catalog Administrator with experiences in tools such as Alation or Atlan to manage and optimize our enterprise data catalog platform. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring metadata management, data discovery, governance, and data lineage within the organization. This role will collaborate with data stewards, analysts, engineers, and business teams to enhance data accessibility and governance across the enterprise.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Data Catalog Management:
  • Administer, configure, and maintain the Data Catalog platform.
  • Ensure seamless integration with various data sources (databases, data lakes, BI tools, applications, etc.)
  • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and optimize configurations.
  • Metadata Management & Data Governance:
  • Oversee metadata ingestion, curation, and classification to enhance data discovery.
  • Work with data stewards and governance teams to enforce data standards, policies, and lineage tracking.
  • Define and implement role-based access control (RBAC) and data security policies
  • Collaborate & Training:
  • Partner with business and technical teams to promote data literacy and catalog adoption.
  • Conduct training and onboarding sessions for users on how to effectively use the platform
  • Maintain documentation and best practices for metadata management and catalog utilization.
  • Continuous Improvement:
  • Evaluate new features and enhancements in the Data Catalog and recommend improvements.
  • Automate catalog-related tasks where possible using APIs and scripting.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and best practices in data governance and cataloging.
Required:
  • 2+ years of experiences administering Alation or Atlan (or similar data catalog platforms).
  • Strong understanding of metadata management, data governance, and data lineage
  • Experience working with SQL and related databases (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery, SQL Server, etc.)
  • Familiarity with data governance frameworks and compliance standards (GDPR, CCPA, etc).
  • Ability to troubleshoot integration and performance issues within the data catalog platform.
Preferred:
  • Experience working with ETL tools, APIs and scripting languages (Python, SQL, etc).
  • Knowledge of data lake and cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Hands-on experience with BI Tools like Tableau, Power BI, Looker, etc.
  • Certifications in Alation, Atlan, or Data Governance framework are a plus.
