The TxDOT Environmental Affairs Division (ENV) is seeking a highly motivated individual for the Data Analytics Specialist position. In this role you will be responsible for performing complex data analysis and data research work. Work involves conducting detailed analysis and extensive research on data and providing results in various formats. Monitors and supports measures to ensure data quality for environmental strategic
planning and performance management activities. Responsible for collecting, analyzing, organizing, and standardizing data reported
for agency environmental performance/programs. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative

Position Description
Performs complex data analysis and data research work. Work involves conducting detailed analysis and extensive research on data and providing results in various formats. Monitors and supports measures to ensure data quality for environmental strategic planning and performance management activities. Responsible for collecting, analyzing, organizing, and standardizing data reported for agency environmental performance/programs. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Essential Duties:
- Identifies data gaps, errors, anomalies, inconsistencies, and redundancies by analyzing the content, structure, and
relationships within data.
- Identifies and interprets data patterns and trends and assesses data quality.
- Assists in the selection of data visualization tools, the development of standards, usage guidelines, and procedures for
those tools.
- Identifies potential project or program impediments, risks, and issues based on data analytics.
- Collects, organizes, and analyzes data for environmental programs and reporting.
- Enters, reviews, validates, and maintains a system/database.
- Collaborates on process flow mapping efforts of the environmental phase and distilling down researched information to
each process step.
- Consults with program analysts, program staff, and Subject Matter Experts to understand the business requirements that
drive the collection and analysis data standards.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's Degree in any discipline. Relevant work experience may be substituted for degree on a year per year basis . Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
Experience: 2 years of experience in data analysis, research, compilation, report writing, and design work experience. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.
Competencies:
Considerable knowledge of
- Business processes and methodologies, data import and export protocols
Report writing and design methodologies
Some knowledge of
- Designing complex graphic materials using graphic software, applications and/or traditional methods
- Technical requirement analysis, business process modeling/mapping, methodology development and data modeling
- Planning, coordinating and handling multiple projects within area of responsibility to meet short and long-term deadlines
- Developing and presenting reports in multiple formats
Proficient skill in
- Communicating complex ideas and information clearly, concisely, and effectively
- Using Microsoft Office Suite including (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and experience using SharePoint, Tableau or
related data analytical platforms
Some skill in
- Analyzing issues, facts, and available information to develop logical solutions; researching inconsistencies of facts or
data; drawing correct inferences from information and making recommendations that support business decisions
Ability to
- Maintain accuracy and attention to detail
- Analyze data and derive informative conclusions.
- Evaluate and make recommendations regarding data integrity.
Effectively organize and prioritize work demands in a fast-paced environment

- Shows initiative and action beyond what is required to improve products or services; is self-starting and completes
assignments independently without constant supervision
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Sedentary work: Lift up to 10 lbs at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools
- Sitting - prolonged periods of time
- Fingering-picking, pinching, typing; working primarily with fingers rather than whole hand
- Repetitive Motion-substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
- Close Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading
