How much do cyber counterintelligence jobs pay per year?
What is a cyber counterintelligence?
A Cyber Counterintelligence job focuses on identifying, preventing, and mitigating cyber threats posed by foreign intelligence entities, hackers, and insider threats. Professionals in this field analyze cyber activities, conduct investigations, and develop strategies to protect sensitive data and systems from espionage or sabotage. They work closely with cybersecurity teams, law enforcement, and government agencies to counter threats. This role requires expertise in threat intelligence, digital forensics, and security operations.
What does a cyber counterintelligence do?
In a Cyber Counterintelligence role, your daily responsibilities often include monitoring network activity for suspicious behavior, analyzing digital evidence, responding to potential internal and external cyber threats, and preparing intelligence reports. You may also collaborate closely with IT security teams, law enforcement, or government agencies to coordinate investigations and share critical information. The work can involve both proactive threat hunting and reactive incident response, as well as developing strategies to counteract adversarial tactics. This dynamic environment requires adaptability, vigilance, and strong attention to detail to effectively safeguard sensitive information.
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in cyber counterintelligence?
To thrive as a Cyber Counterintelligence professional, you need expertise in cybersecurity principles, digital forensics, threat analysis, and often a background in criminal justice or intelligence. Familiarity with tools like SIEM platforms (e.g., Splunk), intrusion detection systems, malware analysis labs, and certifications such as CISSP, CEH, or Security+ are highly valued. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and the ability to communicate complex findings clearly are key soft skills for this role. These capabilities are essential for proactively identifying, investigating, and mitigating cyber threats from hostile actors to protect organizational or national security interests.
