Overview

For over 20 years, The Perfumery has been one of the leading providers of natural and organic essential oils across the globe. Located in New Albany, Indiana, our team has carefully cultivated relationships with local farms and distilleries from around the globe in over 40 countries. The Perfumery is committed to supplying the highest quality natural and organic products available on the market and is recognized as a leader in crafting and imagining the best essential oil blends available today.

We are well known as being the premier supplier to some of the largest brands in the world of natural fragrances, flavors, blends, single source oils, and organics.

Opportunity Description

We are looking for an experienced Business Development professional to add to our sales team who will primarily procure and build business with new customers across various industries. This role will also have a minor role in identifying areas to upsell our existing and newly developed products to managed existing customers. The career opportunities presented in this role are tremendous as we have highly unique and quality products we sell, an impeccable reputation as an industry thought leader, operational capabilities built for scale, a talented team of professionals to collaborate with, and working in an industry well positioned for significant growth. The position will actively cover the Eastern half of the United States and report to the Director of Sales.

Business Development Manager will play an emphasized role in:

  • Prospecting new clients: As the key player focused on driving new business, you will identify targeted new prospective customers, sell them the value and positive impact of purchasing from The Perfumery, and onboard them to become active purchasing high-volume customers.
  • Developing Year-One Customer Relationships: As you onboard clients sourced from your pipeline, you will initially manage their business relationship with The Perfumery to ensure a positive and smooth onboarding and growth phase. This includes dedication to all aspects of the customer experience. Our clients have come to expect that they will be treated as an asset to our business regardless of how much or how little they order. As an account manager you will grow, upsell, and manage sales accounts in the first year of their relationship with us to ensure all client needs are met quickly and professionally. After the initial onboarding phase for new clients, the Business Development Manager will also help assist the transition of landed clients to our client support team for ongoing management and support.
  • Order Management: A portion of your role will consist in managing orders from your clients to ensure accuracy and success of the order. This includes order entry and annotations in our system and CRM, answering customer inquiries on order status, and working with our production team to ensure order completion and shipment. This also includes communicating payment terms and when necessary, collection efforts should a customer fail to pay on a timely manner.
  • Sales Related Travel: As a sales professional, meeting our clients at their place of business is an important part of a successful relationship. Business Development Managers will visit their clients on a regular basis to deepen relationships and anticipate opportunities. In addition to client site visits, our business is committed to increasing our presence at domestic and international trade shows to showcase all that we can do and prospect for new sales leads.
Candidate Requirements/Preferences
  • Minimum of 5 years in B2B sales. Experience selling within the general Essential Oils and Aromatherapy/Fragrance fields is a plus, but not required.
  • Bachelor's degree in business, business management, or similar field required.
  • Ability to provide examples of key account management dealing with the growth of mid to high-volume accounts.
  • Experience with Office 365 applications required.
  • Experience with an ERP system preferred.
  • Experience with a CRM system required.
  • Proven experience in successfully building revenue across a multi-state territory.
  • Successful experience self-directing and proactive in achieving strategies and goals.
  • Ability to efficiently multitask with highly detailed work.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate and communicate cross-functionally.
  • Operate with a high degree of urgency, integrity, and positive demeanor.
Travel

All applicants should be able and willing to travel as needed to achieve the goals of the business. Travel will consist of meetings with the following: key potential partners in the U.S. and Canada, private equity managing partners or deal team members, key industry conferences, and other opportunities that may arise. It is anticipated that travel of up to 25% may be required.

Benefits

At the Perfumery, we think a lot of our employees, which is why we are committed to giving so much back in return to them. We strive to maintain a culture that encourages a strong work/life balance which in turn promotes our comfortable work environment and focus on wellness. In addition to this, you can expect:

  • Competitive salary combining a base salary and aggressive commission structure that provides you with what you need to earn according to your experience.
