CPS Coaches often encounter challenges such as resistance to change from staff, varying levels of experience among team members, and balancing coaching responsibilities with administrative tasks. Regular reflection, ongoing professional development, and collaboration with other coaches or supervisors also help in overcoming obstacles and ensuring consistent, positive outcomes for both staff and families.

What is CPS coaching?

CPS coaching refers to providing guidance and support to families, children, or caregivers involved with Child Protective Services (CPS). CPS coaches help individuals navigate the complex system, understand their rights and responsibilities, and work towards reunification or other best outcomes for the child. Coaches may also offer parenting education, emotional support, and help develop skills to create a safer home environment. Their goal is to empower families to make positive changes and comply with CPS requirements.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a CPS Coach, and why are they important?

To thrive as a CPS (Child Protective Services) Coach, you need a solid background in social work, child welfare practices, and coaching or supervisory experience, often supported by a relevant degree and professional certifications. Familiarity with case management systems, child welfare documentation tools, and training platforms is typically required.
