Your Impact at SAM

SAM, LLC is seeking an experienced full-time GIS Analyst/Technician that will provide support on various transmission projects to a large investor-owned utility (IOU) in either the Indianapolis/Plainfield, Indiana area or the Cincinnati, Ohio area.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of the position may include, but is not limited to the following processes within a GIS environment:

  • Create professional maps and figures of various transmission assets and upgrades in various disciplines including: environmental permitting, local permitting, public engagement, environmental oversight, and siting studies.
  • Develop and deploy web GIS applications, such as publishing feature services and web maps to support environmental analysis and siting/permitting workflows.
  • Develop ArcGIS Enterprise/Portal field maps for efficient field data collection and support tablet configuration.
  • Conduct geospatial analysis, including constraint mapping, route evaluation, and multi-criteria analysis using environmental, land use, and infrastructure datasets.
  • Create property owner lists and parcel maps for public engagement notifications.
  • Interactive map creation to assist SME’s for public questioning.
  • Data conversion between .dwg, .shp, and .kmz file types.
  • Download, maintain, and optimize large data libraries from a variety of online primary sources.
  • Create map packages, kmz’s and web maps of data to share across departments.
  • ArcGIS Portal admin tasks, like adding users to groups, changing data ownership, etc.
  • Standardizing enterprise-wide symbology standards.
  • Enterprise geodatabase management: Manage enterprise geodatabase, overseeing data integrity, vendor compliance, and system performance for critical regulatory operations.
  • Provide detailed analysis for estimating construction matting costs for budgeting purposes.
  • Creation of ArcGIS interactive web maps for project level websites
  • Responsive communication, clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
What You Bring to SAM

Ideal candidate would have experience and proficiency in:

  • ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Field Maps
  • AutoCAD friendly
  • Google Earth Pro
  • MS Office Suite including Power BI Reporting
  • Basic database structure and management knowledge
  • The ability to take ownership of projects and drive them to completion
  • Public Speaking and Presentation skills
  • Research proficiency
  • Ability to adapt to new GIS software and workflows
Preferred skills and knowledge with the following:
  • Experience in utility industry and its terminology, especially energy transmission/distribution, is a strong plus
  • GIS compatible scripting (Python, VBScript, Arcade)
  • Region specific permitting knowledge
  • Linear utility experience
  • Spatial Analysis Experience
  • AutoCad, and working with CAD drawings in Esri programs
  • ArcGIS model development for automated data clipping and analysis.

Location:

Hybrid – Some work will be performed remotely with in-office work required (three days/week). Candidate must be within commutable distance to office in either Plainfield, IN or Cincinnati, OH.
