The Impact of a Principal Engineer at Coupa:
At Coupa, we're building a future where Agentic AI and an Autonomous Buyer-Supplier Network will reinvent the future of Global Trade. As an AI Architect, you'll lead the charge - defining and driving the architectural vision that powers our next-generation Autonomous Spend Management platform. You'll design intelligent, adaptive systems that help businesses optimize spend, streamline supplier collaboration, and operate with greater autonomy and scale.
What You'll Do:
  • Collaborate with a cross-functional team of engineers, data scientists, architects, and product managers to deliver AI-powered products that build the future of trade at Coupa.
  • You will shape the north star platform architecture - owning and evolving living diagrams and canonical APIs for agent orchestration, RAG pipelines, prompt libraries, and multi-tenant policy enforcement.
  • Build an end-to-end platform that democratizes AI across the entire engineering team and our partner ecosystem.
  • Accelerate innovation by owning proofs of concept and lead key RFCs around hierarchical agent memory, multimodal RAG, and multimodal guardrails.
  • You'll lead by influence - hosting architecture office hours, mentoring senior and principal engineers, authoring technical design docs and blogs, and representing Coupa at leading AI conferences to evangelize the platform vision both internally and externally.

What You Will Bring to Coupa:
  • At least 10 years of experience with Python, Go, Java or Ruby
  • 8+ years of experience deploying scalable services on a major cloud provider
  • 2+ years of experience with Agentic AI frameworks
  • 2+ years of experience architecting and developing complex AI systems
  • Experience as a Principal Engineer or Architect influencing and guiding 50+ engineers
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor multiple engineering teams including other architects and directors.

The estimated pay range for this role is $201,000 - $281,000.
The starting salary for the successful candidate will be based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills, experience, and geographic location.
