The Impact You'll Make in this Role

The Laboratory Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the laboratory, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and maintaining high-quality testing and research practices. This role involves directly and indirectly managing laboratory staff, equipment, budgets, and processes to ensure efficient, accurate, and safe laboratory operations.

Lab Capabilities and Equipment

  • Develop strategic vision for internal and external lab capabilities in alignment with R&D Leaders and the Product Development Pipeline
  • Develop partnerships with external lab testing facilities
  • Maintain equipment/asset lists and prioritize capital purchases.
  • Act as site's primary point-of-contact with Engineering and Environmental & Health Services (EHS) for all new equipment installation, relocation, and removal of service.
  • Work with lab managers from other functions to align best practices, procedures, and processes.

Operational Management

  • Oversee and manage daily laboratory operations, including scheduling, managing capacity, and workflow coordination.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and maintain laboratory certifications.
  • Develop and implement laboratory policies, procedures, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Ensure and coordinate all equipment maintenance, validation, calibration, waste removal, and repair/troubleshooting of laboratory equipment.
  • Manage inventory of reagents, chemicals, and supplies
  • Establish and monitor quality control standards to ensure accuracy and reliability of test results.
  • Conduct safety audits and risk assessments; implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and provide mentorship.

Budget & Reporting

  • Develop and manage laboratory budgets, including cost control and resource allocation.
  • Prepare and deliver reports on laboratory performance, productivity, and compliance to senior management.

Research & Development Support

  • Coordinate with research teams to support experimental design and execution.
  • Stay current with advancements in laboratory technology and implement improvements where applicable.

Staff Leadership

  • Indirect management of laboratory personnel. May have direct laboratory personnel management responsibilities.
  • Foster a culture of safety, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, Solventum requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, Medical technology) from an accredited institution

OR

  • High School Diploma/GED from an accredited institution and a minimum of fourteen (14) years combined industry experience in a laboratory setting or scientific discipline in a regulated private, public, government or military environment

In addition to the above requirements, the following are also required:

  • Minimum of seven (7) years combined industry experience in a laboratory setting or scientific discipline in a regulated private, public, government or military environment

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • Ability to independently manage aspects of larger projects from inception to completion

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel software

  • Good working knowledge of processes and equipment common to medical device manufacturing; examples include additive manufacturing, machining, extrusion, injection molding, coating, adhesive and thermal bonding, etc.

  • Experience with and working knowledge of ISO9000, FDA and GMP requirements.

  • Strong knowledge of equipment calibration, maintenance, and utilization practices.

  • Familiarity with prototyping technologies (e.g., machining, 3D printing, injection molding).

  • Understanding of ISO9000, FDA, and GMP standards.

  • Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills.

  • ASCP, CLS, or equivalent professional certification.

  • Familiarity with ISO standards and LIMS systems.

Travel: May include up to 15% domestic/international travel

Applicable to US Applicants Only:The expected compensation range for this position is $143,200 - $196,900, which includes base pay plus variable incentive pay, if eligible.
