The Cincinnati Center City Development Corporation (3CDC) is a tax-exempt nonprofit focused on revitalizing Cincinnati’s urban core, particularly the Central Business District and Over-the-Rhine. Partnering with the City of Cincinnati and the corporate community, 3CDC works to create a vibrant downtown through development, programming, and district management, supported by a team of roughly 140 full-time and 180 part-time staff.

Job Summary:
The Accounting Manager plays a key role in supporting the accounting and financial reporting for assigned areas of 3CDC's operations, including corporate operations, civic space management and programming, and business district activities. The position is responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, timely month-end close activities, strong internal controls, and effective day-to-day management of assigned accounting staff.
This is a hands-on leadership position that balances technical accounting responsibilities with staff supervision, operational support, and continuous process improvement. The Accounting Manager works closely with operational teams, helping ensure financial activity is accurately reflected in the accounting records while identifying opportunities to improve processes, strengthen controls, and enhance the quality of financial information.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and proactive, with the ability to lead others, manage competing priorities, and drive accountability in a dynamic and evolving environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership amp; Staff Development
  • Supervise and support assigned accounting staff, providing day-to-day guidance and work direction.
  • Review work for accuracy, completeness, and timeliness while helping staff develop their technical and professional skills.
  • Assist with onboarding, training, and cross-training efforts to strengthen team effectiveness and continuity.
Financial Performance amp; Budget Management
  • Manage assigned portions of the operating budget, including ongoing monitoring of financial performance and budget-to-actual results.
  • Develop and maintain a strong understanding of the operational activities driving financial performance and cash flow within assigned areas.
  • Work closely with operational leaders and staff to ensure financial results accurately reflect business activity.
  • Identify significant variances, investigate underlying causes, and communicate findings to management.
  • Support the annual budgeting process and other financial planning activities for assigned departments.
Accounting, Reporting amp; Financial Activity
  • Own assigned portions of the month-end close process, ensuring financial results are accurate, complete, and delivered on time.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, supporting schedules, and other accounting workpapers.
  • Ensure financial transactions are recorded in accordance with GAAP, organizational accounting policies, and established internal controls.
  • Maintain accurate accounting records and support the preparation of internal financial reporting used by management.
  • Investigate accounting issues, unusual transactions, and reconciliation differences, resolving issues independently when appropriate and escalating more complex matters as needed.

Process Improvement amp; Support
  • Identify opportunities to improve the efficiency, accuracy, and consistency of accounting processes and workflows.
  • Recommend and assist in implementing process improvements and standardized procedures across assigned areas.
  • Support enhancements to accounting systems and business processes in coordination with the Accounting Director and other departments.
  • Assist in preparing schedules and documentation for annual audits and other compliance requirements.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
  • 3-6+ years of relevant accounting experience
  • CPA or progress toward CPA preferred but not required

Skills amp; Experience:
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
  • Ability to identity issues and work through solutions independently
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively across teams
  • Proficiency in Excel and ability to learn new systems quickly
