Senior Controller - Family Office
Our client, a single-family office, is seeking an experienced Senior Controller to lead the accounting, financial reporting, and financial operations for a sophisticated investment organization with a complex portfolio of entities and investments. This role supports a diverse ownership structure that includes trusts, partnerships, LLCs, S-corporations, real estate entities, and private investments.
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Senior Controller will oversee accounting operations, financial reporting, investment accounting, cash management, and internal controls while partnering closely with executive leadership, tax advisors, legal counsel, and investment professionals.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced accounting leader who enjoys working in a dynamic, high-touch environment with complex entity structures and investment activities.
Responsibilities
Accounting & Financial Reporting

  • Oversee all accounting operations, including the general ledger and monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
  • Prepare and review consolidated and entity-level financial statements and management reporting packages.
  • Manage accounting for trusts, partnerships, LLCs, investment entities, and related organizations.
  • Oversee investment accounting for both public and private investments, including capital calls, distributions, valuations, brokerage activity, and partnership capital accounts.
  • Ensure accurate accounting for intercompany transactions, consolidations, and eliminations across multiple legal entities.
  • Coordinate with internal and external tax professionals by providing financial information required for tax compliance and planning.
  • Support cash management activities, including forecasting, liquidity planning, and funding requirements.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Research and resolve complex accounting and reporting matters.
  • Review annual information reporting, including 1099 filings.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop members of the accounting team.

Operations & Process Improvement

  • Support governance, compliance, and reporting requirements across multiple entities.
  • Assist executive leadership with special projects related to entity structure, financial reporting, process improvements, and operational initiatives.
  • Oversee annual state and property tax filings.
  • Review financial information related to investment entities and charitable organizations, as applicable.
  • Serve as a key resource for accounting systems, reporting tools, and process optimization initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to improve reporting, workflows, and data quality across the finance organization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • CPA required.
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience in public accounting, family office, investment management, partnership accounting, or a related environment.
  • Experience working with complex ownership structures, including partnerships, trusts, LLCs, S-corporations, and investment entities.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, partnership accounting, investment accounting, trust accounting, and multi-entity consolidations.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing consolidated financial statements.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while partnering effectively with executives, advisors, and external service providers.
  • Prior leadership experience managing or mentoring accounting professionals.
  • Experience with investment accounting or family office accounting is highly preferred.
  • Experience with family office accounting software (such as Archway) is a plus.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; experience with reporting and financial systems preferred.
  • High level of professionalism, discretion, and attention to detail.
