Job description

Job Summary
Towson University (TU) has earned distinction as both a top-100 public university and one of the nation's great colleges to work for. Located north of Baltimore, TU currently enrolls over 19,000 students and is the second-largest university in the prestigious University System of Maryland. Towson University fosters a climate that is grounded in respect to cultivating the intellectual and personal growth of the entire university community.
The Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow supports the research program of Dr. Michelle Snyder focusing on characterization of host-pathogen interactions and their effects on innate immunity, using planaria, Dictyostelium discoideum, and mammalian cell models. The Fellow will collaborate with Dr. Snyder in developing and leading research projects related to the goals of the lab, mentor undergraduate and graduate students, and support day-to-day lab operations. The Fellow will participate in grant and publication writing in addition to presenting at local and national research and mentoring conferences. The Fellow will have the opportunity to teach an undergraduate or graduate class within their area of expertise as an additional adjunct faculty assignment.
Responsibilities and Duties
  • Carry out independent research that contributes to the aims of the PI's NIH grant (participate in experimental design, carry out experiments, analyze and interpret data, document experimental findings).
  • Mentor undergraduate and graduate student researchers.
  • Contribute to manuscript and proposal writing.
  • Manage lab equipment, supplies and ensure compliance with safety protocols in the laboratory.
  • Participate in lab meetings, seminars and professional training opportunities.
  • Present research results at local and national meetings.

Qualifications and Skills
  • A Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences, or a related field, and three years of experience.
  • Expertise in common cell and molecular biology experimental methodology.
  • Experience working with undergraduate or graduate students.

Preferred
  • Expertise in Microbiology and/or Immunology.
  • Candidates are desired who are enthusiastic about mentoring students with a broad range of perspectives and experiences.

Salary and Benefits
Targeted salary range of $50,000-$55,500 and a contract that offers annual leave, holidays, sick days. Contractual employees scheduled to work 30 or more hours per week may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage. The position is contingent on funds being available at time of hire.
