Applications Engineer

The Applications Engineer is responsible to read and interpret customer supplied specifications, statements of work and/or other customer supplied information to develop concepts and pricing for design and fabrication of automation equipment, tooling, fixtures, and gages.ย  The Applications Engineer will work closely with mechanical, controls and business development engineers to develop concept pricing that the client will find beneficial.ย  They will also work with mechanical and controls engineering, along with the sales team, to ensure that Microโ€™s customer design specifications or statements of work are satisfied.ย  The Applications Engineer reports to the Director of Engineering.

Position Responsibilities:

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Prepare proposals and pricing of automated equipment, gages and fixtures using Micro approved formats and documents.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Attend quote meetings as required.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Work overtime to satisfy delivery requirements as required.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Assist with design as required.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Adhere to corporate philosophies and procedures.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Look for improvements regarding all aspects of applications engineering.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Provide required assistance to sub-contract engineering firms, mechanical and controls design, sales, and mechanical/controls build groups to maximize results.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Assemble final detailed concept for project handoff.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Support sales activities as required.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Overnight travel, if required.

Job Qualifications:

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Education and Experience: Completion of AAS in Engineering or Engineering Technology or equivalent, plus 2 yearsโ€™ experience is required

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Proficient in SolidWorks required

Hours: 7:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. This salary wage is based on a 45-hour work week, overtime paid after 45 hours.

Company Description

Micro Instrument Corp was founded in 1944 by a family of German Immigrants who were tool makers by trade. The initial business model focused on developing small surgical instruments. Shortly after our establishment, a considerable opportunity became available to support local industrial giants such as Eastman Kodak, Bausch + Lomb, and GM/AC Delco. As the skills of our founders got recognized, it didn't take long for the complex machining contracts in town to be sent to Micro. We are very proud of our excellent machining legacy and capabilities, which still remains a staple of our company's success.
By the late 1960s, manufacturing in the Rochester area was booming, which offered vast opportunities. Several major Micro clients strongly recommended that we get involved in the machine build business; some of which requested private meetings to detail their desperate need for reliable and efficient local machine builders. The leap into equipment design and build was taken in 1967, and has grown to be the heart of our company. From that point on, Micro Automated System's Group became a reality.
Today, Micro continues to grow and ship equipment all over the world. Utilizing a state-of-the-art 55,000 square foot facility, we provide custom machinery and tools for multi-national clients including NASA, Covidien, Walt Disney, Xerox, and Valeant Pharmaceuticals. We employ a full staff of engineers, technical writers and trade professionals with unparalleled experience in the industry. Over half of our employees have over 20+ years tenure.
