Job description

SUMMARY:

The Prepress Operator is responsible for the overall production of digital data as supplied by customers or created within the department for the purpose of supporting the digital workflow necessary to create the proofs and plates used in the printing process. They are experienced with Prinergy and Preps and proficient in current Adobe software including Photoshop, InDesign and Acrobat.

Salary: $34.85/hour

WHAT YOU’LL DO ON THE A-TEAM:

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time.

  • Pre-flighting of supplied files and downloading data of supplied media to the server into the appropriate folders for both plate ready and native application files.
  • Handle some page layout (Adobe InDesign), color retouching (Adobe Photoshop), PDFs (Adobe Acrobat) and all page imposition (Preps).
  • Manage all digital proofing, Epson proofs, Reader Proofs, and all other such proofing devices online.
  • Follow job layouts to create plate imposition template files. From these template files, import proper pages for processing.
  • Use imposed files to create a digital or a 4-color imposed plotter for review or review the impositions digitally.
  • Review/QC impositions and compare them to the approved contract proofs to ensure that there are no errors then send files thru the appropriate workflow (line screen, dot shape, etc.…) to plate setter.
  • Handle rules-ups of out-sheets when called to do so, operating digital plate setter, including adding new plates, etc., checking finished plates for errors.
  • Operate plate bender ensuring that quality standards for each press is met, change chemistry and cleaning processors as required.
  • Follow through on all directions given by the manager, which includes housekeeping of the Prepress Department, maintaining a high level of confidentiality, and preventative maintenance.
  • Control calibration of all equipment, within the scope of operator usage, on all equipment used in daily production including plate processor maintenance.
  • Maintain a positive customer relations approach towards visitors, customers, and employees while handling these and other duties as assigned by Premedia Manager.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent. Technical Degree is highly desirable.
  • Two (2) years of Digital Premedia experience with Prinergy, Preps, and Offset Platemaking preferred.
  • Must be proficient in current Adobe software including Photoshop, InDesign and Acrobat.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The employee works indoors in both office and production environments. Additionally, the incumbent will work near moving mechanical parts and in high places. He/she will be exposed to fumes or airborne particles. There is frequent noise in the work environment.
