What is a contract informatics nurse?

A Contract Informatics Nurse is a registered nurse who specializes in healthcare informatics and works on a contract basis, rather than as a permanent employee. They bridge the gap between clinical practice and information technology, helping healthcare organizations implement and optimize electronic health records (EHRs), data management systems, and other health IT solutions. Their responsibilities may include workflow analysis, system customization, staff training, and ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations. By working on contracts, they can offer their expertise to multiple organizations, often for specific projects or during system transitions.

Familiarity with electronic health records (EHRs), data analytics tools, and informatics certifications such as ANCC Informatics Nursing Certification are typically required. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication facilitate collaboration between clinical and IT teams.
