Job description

Description
The Risk Analyst is a mid-level professional operating in the BBNC Finance Department. This role demonstrates a basic knowledge of commercial insurance, accounting, economics and business typically obtained through completion of a college degree in one of these fields, plus one year or more of professional level experience. Candidates must possess a high degree of interest and commitment to developing the skills necessary for a successful career in corporate risk management and risk finance.
Basic Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide active input and assistance to the SVP of Corporate Risk management concerning the following:
  • Execution of the Risk Management and Insurance Program for the Corporation and subsidiaries to ensure that significant hazard risks are identified and an efficient and appropriate balance between risk retention and risk transfer is maintained.
  • Assist in the Corporation's commercial insurance renewal process from the development and collection of the submission materials through program design and negotiation of the coverages with the broker and carriers.
  • Review, validation and correction of any errors for insurance policies issued by insurers.
  • Identification of appropriate risk mitigation tools as primary point of contact with third party provider of such services.
  • Assist with Claims management, negotiation and settlement.
  • Communication with Operations, Legal, Finance, Human Resources, insurance brokers, consultants, actuaries, captive managers, TPAs and insurers
  • Performance of risk management administrative tasks such as surety bond issuance, workers' compensation filings and certificates of insurance.
  • Allocate risk cost to subsidiary companies using appropriate bases for allocation.
  • Assist operating companies to ensure compliance related to OSHA recordkeeping and filings and other related regulatory requirements.
  • Program design, renewal process, policy issuance, regulatory filings and other processes related to BBNC's captive insurance company.
  • Analysis of loss information to proactively identify trends and mitigate future losses.
  • Development of tools for internal communication of risk management policies and procedures.
  • Review of draft contracts, leases, MSA's and similar documents for insurance requirements as requested by subsidiaries. Propose appropriate revisions to minimize administrative burden and risk shifting to BBNC companies.
  • Participation in broader enterprise risk management initiatives.
  • Participate in the execution of the Internal Audit program with focus on follow through with completion and close out of recommendations.
  • Participate in the due diligence process associated with the corporation's mergers and acquisitions effort.
  • Provide input to the quarterly Audit Committee report from Risk Management.
  • Participate in budgeting and forecasting processes.

Requirements
To perform this job successfully, an individual must possess the basic knowledge and skills necessary to perform the basic duties in a satisfactory manner following a limited period of orientation and training. The minimum requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
  • One to three years of professional level experience performing corporate insurance and risk management duties or functions. Training and experience with accounting and/or financial analysis duties or functions can satisfy a portion of the experience requirements.
  • Experience with Microsoft Applications including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Teams.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills including strong interpersonal and listening skills. Excellent presentation and facilitation skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Strong commitment to teamwork.
  • Strong analytical skills with ability to conduct complex financial analyses, identify trends and improvement opportunities, evaluate options and develop solutions. Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions conclusions or approaches to problems. Ability to develop and refine analytical models that leverage vast amounts of data.
  • Ability to analyze data and develop recommendations.
  • High level of personal motivation, interpersonal skills, professionalism and integrity required.Work habits consistent with a corporate office environment.

Education:
A Bachelor's degree in risk management, accounting, economics, business administration, or related field, that has provided the candidate with the basic knowledge necessary to successfully learn and perform the duties of the position. Additional work experience (beyond the minimum) may be substituted for the Bachelor's degree requirement when direct relevant experience and knowledge of the subject matter can be demonstrated.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands to successfully perform the essential functions of this job include but not limited to:
  • Sitting in a normal seated position for extended periods of time;
  • Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction;
  • Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers for example using a keyboard;
  • Near visual acuity with ability to view information on a computer screen for extended periods of time;
  • Visual acuity to see within normal parameters;
  • Hearing within normal range and on the phone; moving freely about.
  • Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.

Travel Requirements
Some travel may be required, up to 10% of annual hours worked.
