Bully Pulpit International is an outcomes agency made up of strategists, data scientists, and artists. We come from politics, brands, and government and we communicate without barriers and measure what matters. We have more than 350 team members in six countries and thirteen offices — Berlin, Brussels, Chicago, D.C., London, Los Angeles, New York, Oslo, San Francisco, and Zürich. We apply our unique expertise across strategic communications, public affairs, research, and digital marketing to create sophisticated and customized strategies that make change possible for both American and European clients.

  • Starting Salary Range: $120,000 - $145,000
  • Location: Expectation to work from our Washington, DC office at least 3 days a week

The Impact You Will Make

As the Marketing & Content Director, you will serve as the primary storyteller and strategic engine for the BPI brand. We are seeking a content-first strategist with a background in agency marketing, editorial, or hard news production. You have a genuine passion for our space—someone who loves the content, is curious about the future of communications, and is energized by the changing nature of the current political and corporate moment.

Reporting directly to the Managing Director of New Business and working closely with the CEO, President, and Founding Partner, you will drive a sophisticated editorial agenda—including our podcast, social platforms, and research reports—to ensure BPI is viewed as an authoritative voice among global business and policy leaders. This includes managing industry and trade relationships, including awards and offering support. You will work directly with our senior leaders and subject matter experts to translate complex data and insights into compelling thought leadership. Your goal is to productize our internal innovation and expertise —transforming our technical work into a market-facing brand narrative, ensuring our marketing efforts are helping fuel the agency’s growth and opening doors for New Business.

By managing our external profile with precision, you will help BPI establish itself as a world-class firm defining the future of global communications.

What the Day-to-Day Looks Like

Strategy & Content (50% initially)
  • Senior-Level Engagement: This is a role that requires you to be both senior and scrappy. You are expected to sit at the table with leadership to architect a strategy, but possess the resourceful, hands-on work ethic needed to dive into the weeds and push projects across the finish line yourself. No task is too small if it helps tell our story.
  • Strategic Narrative: You will drive the marketing strategy that identifies and brings to life the agency's big ideas. Leading regular meetings with Partners and team leads, you will extract the unique insights BPI is generating in the field and architect the strategy to transform them into compelling narratives—whether that’s a LinkedIn deep-dive, a video series, or a research report.
  • Content: You will drive the agency’s content agenda, you will help produce content, but you won't do it alone. You will collaborate with senior leaders and subject matter experts to ideate, develop, and see high-impact content through to completion, ensuring it aligns with our New Business targets.
  • Multimedia: Help direct the strategy and production of the BPI website, podcast, and other emerging multimedia formats to ensure our voice is heard in the rooms that matter.
  • New Business Integration: Work in lockstep with the New Business team to ensure our marketing efforts are helping fuel the agency’s growth.
Earned Media & Executive Positioning (20%)
  • Strategic Earned Media: You will identify unique story angles that move BPI beyond the trade press. This includes managing high-level press requests, initiating outreach to top-tier outlets, and prepping senior colleagues for interviews, panels, and global conferences to ensure our best thinkers are front and center.
  • Executive Visibility Support: Partner with our executive leadership to amplify their external profiles. You will help identify high-value opportunities and, as needed, prep senior colleagues for high-stakes interviews, panels, and global conferences—ensuring BPI’s point of view is sharp, competitive, and consistently messaged.
Events & Brand Experience (15%)
  • Events: Oversee the vision, content & execution for virtual and in-person events—from high-stakes salon dinners and roundtable discussions to webinars and industry panels.
  • Reputation Management: Ensure BPI remains a dominant industry force by strategically managing our awards calendar, recognizing our best work, our people, and our unique creative point of view.
  • Global Synergy: Act as a marketing bridge for our European markets to ensure a unified brand presence. Help coordinate a single, global editorial calendar, ensuring that themes and growth goals are aligned across regions.
Special Projects (15%)
  • Help Lead Major Announcements: Drive the marketing strategy and execution for big moments (ie acquisitions, ELT-level hires, product rollouts), ensuring new capabilities are seamlessly introduced to the U.S. and global markets.
  • Website Governance: Oversee the execution of routine website maintenance (by junior staff)—including the onboarding of new staff bios, case study updates—while directing high-level design overhauls and technical projects in partnership with our external dev agency.

Requirements

What You Bring

  • Editorial or Agency Marketing Background: 7+ years of experience in an agency marketing role, a newsroom, or a production-heavy editorial environment. You have a deep understanding of the professional services world.
  • Content Production: Proven experience managing multi-channel content streams (e.g. podcasts, social, long-form reports) from ideation to execution.
  • Service Marketing Specialist: You understand how to market expertise. You can distill technical data into narratives that resonate with C-suite and policy audiences.
  • Strategic Narrative Ability: You possess the rare ability to sit with subject matter experts, digest complex geopolitical data or technical insights, and distill them into a compelling narrative that resonates with Fortune 500 C-suite and global policy leaders.
  • Editorial & Creative Initiative: An excellent writer and editor who possesses the creative initiative to identify "the story" before others do. You are skilled at explaining complex ideas to broad audiences, making BPI’s technical and data-driven work accessible and compelling to C-suite decision-makers.
  • Agility in High-Stakes Environments: You thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic, and collaborative environment. You can pivot from long-term strategy to rapid-response opportunities without losing momentum.
  • Strategic Intuition: The ability to see around the corner of industry trends and position BPI as a leader before the curve.
  • People Leadership & Management: Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and influence at the senior leadership level. You have proven experience managing junior staff and external vendors to hit deadlines, maintain high quality, and foster a high-performing support environment.
  • Energy, Humility, and Positive Attitude: This is a fast moving environment and this person should thrive on the energy, be all about the team, and lift everyone up.

Benefits

BPI offers a wide range of benefits to U.S.-based employees, including 100% company-paid medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) program with employer match up to 4%, generous time off for vacation, $50 monthly phone reimbursement, unlimited sick time, and 16 weeks of paid leave for new parents.
