Job description

Hoffman Construction is looking for a motivated and growth-oriented Data Analyst to join our expanding Data team. In this role, you will play a key part in enabling data-driven decisions by gathering, analyzing, and translating complex data from multiple sources into clear, actionable insights that support project outcomes. You will work closely with project teams to develop meaningful reports and visualizations, while ensuring data accuracy and integrity through effective collection and cleansing practices.

The ideal candidate is comfortable automating workflows and leveraging advanced analytical techniques, including Python programming, machine learning (ML), and emerging Generative AI tools. Reporting to the Data Manager, this position requires strong organizational and communication skills, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. This is an in-person position at the main office or on the project jobsite.
 

Compensation Range: $65,000 - $100,000 DOE + Incentives

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with project team members to align analytic and reporting needs with project priorities, leveraging data from multiple platforms. 

  • Participate in the creation and continuous enhancement of reports and dashboards using Power BI, Smartsheet, Excel, or other data reporting tools.

  • Participate in the creation and continuous enhancement of data analytics tools to promote predictability and operational efficiencies for project teams and corporate entities.

  • Participate in the creation of semantic models for use in reporting and AI work.

  • Aggregate and analyze data from diverse sources, ensuring comprehensive insights and synthesis by employing innovative data visualization techniques.

  • Detect inconsistencies and incorrect data, then locate and rectify the issues.

  • Oversee the creation and delivery of weekly and monthly reports to internal and external stakeholders, including executives and client representatives. 

  • Serve as the subject matter expert on data, reporting, and analytics tools, including generative AI, keeping abreast of technological advancements and industry trends.

  • Educate and guide cross-functional teams on leveraging analytics and reporting tools effectively, aligning with project goals.

  • Foster collaboration across departments to develop data products and tools, defining success metrics and delivering presentations that drive actionable insights and support strategic decision-making.

  • Determine ways to automate data collection and reporting processes to ensure accurate and timely data updates.

  • Research and employ Generative AI and ML to create predictive tools and/or determine efficiencies that can be gained using construction data. Verify results.
     

    Qualifications:
    Position Related Skills

  • Proficient using Power BI, Excel, Smartsheet, and other data analytic tools, with an aptitude for learning new tools. 

  • Proficient in data analysis skills such as data cleaning and preparation, data visualization, mathematical and statistical calculation, dashboarding and reporting.

  • Proficient with data (semantic) modeling techniques required.

  • Proficient in both DAX and Smartsheet programming languages.

  • Practical experience in statistical analysis using statistical packages, including Excel, Power BI, R, Python, and Machine Learning tools.

  • Experience with Python programming and creating automations, especially within Power BI.

  • Knowledge of and experience with Generative A.I. tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, MS Copilot, or similar.

  • Ability to digest disparate data sources and decipher how they can be used to create operational efficiencies and support data-driven decisions.

  • Ability to communicate complex information to a range of data-literate audiences

  • Ability to solve problems independently and cooperatively with other team members.

  • Proficient technical writing experience in relevant areas, including queries, reports, and presentations.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Fabric and the medallion structure of data flows is beneficial.

  • Knowledge of basic software development practices such as Development, Testing, and Production environments is beneficial.

  • Knowledge of data security concepts and processes is beneficial.

  • Previous experience in the construction industry is beneficial. 

  • Familiarity with construction management software, such as Procore, is beneficial.

    Professional Experience and Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Data Analytics, Data Science, Information Science/Management, or a related field of study, or equivalent work experience required. 

  • Five (5) + years of professional data analysis and BI reporting experience, including statistical analysis and data science (ML) preferred.
