VP Construction - Data Center Project Delivery - Los Angeles, CA / West Coast
This opportunity is with a leading provider of mission-critical data center solutions as a Managed Services Provider as a VP of Construction Projects in an Owner's Rep capacity. This firm provides a complete life cycle of solutions that are custom-fit to the requirements of their client's mission-critical facilities. They build mission-critical facilities for data center facilities nationwide for Enterprise, Colocation and Hyperscale Companies.

We are looking for a VP of Data Center Construction Projects to support critical facility construction delivery of upgrades, retrofits and other complex projects in a live environment. The VP will be responsible for all aspects of managing and execution of data center construction project management on the West Coast and act on the Owner's behalf. This will include providing senior leadership to Project Managers that will be managing complex projects varying in scope, contractors and vendors associated with the delivery of client's projects to provide superior client service. The candidate will have overall responsibility West Coast Project Management team for the delivery of assigned projects on budget on time and assurance that the project scope and quality meet Company Design Standards and the objectives set for the project.


Responsibilities:

  • Leadership position in the development and execution of strategy for the construction pm team
  • Contribute to the development of expanding existing business with other business units and as well as additional projects with the customer; source new business
  • Manage relationships with strategic alliance clients; serve as a key resource to multiple client teams;
  • Manage and maintain liaison with various Project Managers that oversee project deliverables on construction efforts with support of contractors and vendors in order to manage the day to day activities that impact the delivery of company's critical facilities construction projects
  • Performance management of all contracted vendors, consultants, etc.
  • Provide guidance with on-site supervision when needed to ensure project performance criteria are being met
  • Act as a project executive, with oversight of multiple project implementations and execution of deliverables on the west coast
  • Negotiate contracts Customers and Vendors as necessary
  • Manage financial aspects of entire project: establish & manage project budgets (including hard and soft costs), maintain monthly forecasts and cash flow analysis, prepare anticipated cost reports and any other reports to protect the company's interest and simultaneously maintain good relationship with the client
  • Provide construction cost/benefit analysis as required. Responsibilities may include, but is not limited to: pre-construction duties (e.g. design, entitlements, bidding, permitting, consultant selection, design team selection, schedule creation, contractor selection, and vendor selection), etc
  • Deliver Built to Suit projects, upgrades and retrofits with a heavy emphasis on value-engineering
  • Drive Company Standards uniformly as it regards to Project Delivery by all project participants on all projects
  • Identify, manage and mitigate areas of concern regarding potential liabilities and risk (fee, company reputation, errors and omissions, etc.)
  • Maintain client relationships and manage conflict resolution
  • Represent the company in project meetings
  • Manage / hire a team of project managers; responsible for attracting, retaining, developing and managing a team
  • Trains and develops project team members in the skills and understanding of firm procedures, methodology and practices expected for a successful project implementation
  • Insures that Project Managers are following company and industry's best practice are fully and accurately followed and that all internal and external stakeholders are fully informed of all project, internal and client issues affecting the perception of the local, national and global reputation of the firm

Qualifications:

  • BA or BS a plus; advanced degree a plus
  • Minimum of 7-10+ years of experience managing data center or mission critical construction projects with progressive leadership responsibility
  • Experience managing multiple Data Center Construction Projects as an Owner or as a General Contractor
  • Demonstrated ability to manage retrofit projects, interior fit outs, upgrades, or multi site capital programs in a live data center environment
  • Deep understanding of the design and construction process for mission critical building systems
  • Executive level client facing experience with strong relationship management and advisory capabilities
  • Proven leadership experience supervising, mentoring, and developing project managers and teams
  • Strong financial expertise with demonstrated success managing complex project budgets, executive level reporting, scheduling and SOPS as they relate to corporate real estate
  • Computer proficiency including MS Project, Excel, and enterprise project controls tools such as Primavera P6; AutoCAD a plus
  • Highly organized with strong analytical, decision making, and problem solving skills
  • Exceptional communication skills across written, verbal, and executive level presentations
  • Ability to support both internal and external stakeholders (architects, contractors, client's representatives, etc.).
  • Ability to work independently and make high impact decisions affecting large capital programs
  • Advanced contract negotiation and vendor management experience
  • Willingness to travel as required to support project and client needs
  • Active participation in professional organizations such as AFCOM, ASHRAE, 7x24 Exchange, PTC, Datacenter Dynamics, Uptime, iMasons, Bisnow/DICE, etc.
  • Previous experience in the Military / Military Veterans a huge plus! Experience with Electrical / Mechanical: Navy nukes - EMN, ETN, MMNs, Seabees, Army - Power Generation, Air Force – Power Production, Generator Techs, Maritime, Coast Guard, Army National Guard, etc.
