Key Responsibilities of the Construction Accountant

As a Construction Accountant, you will:

  • Process high-volume accounts payable invoice entry
  • Code invoices, expenses, and credit card transactions to the appropriate jobs/projects
  • Manage vendor payments and follow up on invoices, discrepancies, and payment status
  • Support customer billing, including construction-style and AIA billing as needed
  • Assist with job costing by accurately allocating labor and material expenses by project
  • Reconcile company credit card transactions and maintain supporting documentation
  • Communicate proactively regarding backlog, coding questions, and outstanding items
  • Ensure accuracy and organization across all day-to-day accounting activities as a Construction Accountant

Preferred Qualifications of the Construction Accountant
  • 2+ years of experience as a Construction Accountant, ideally in construction or a project-based environment
  • Strong understanding of job costing and how to correctly allocate costs to projects (required)
  • Experience with Sage 100 (strongly preferred)
  • Familiarity with construction accounting practices and workflows
  • Experience with AIA billing is a plus
  • Exposure to union payroll is a plus
  • Ability to step into a role quickly and operate independently as a Construction Accountant
  • Strong attention to detail and communication skills
