Job description

Headquartered in Smithtown, New York, Damianos Realty Group is a commercial real estate company that owns, develops, and manages more than 1.5 million square feet of property throughout Long Island.

Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Construction Accountant to join our Accounting & Finance team. The Construction Accountant will oversee project cost accounting across the Company's development and construction projects, ensuring accurate job cost tracking, timely vendor payments, and reliable financial reporting. This full-time, on-site position reports directly to the Assistant Controller and plays a key role in supporting construction and development operations.

Key Responsibilities

- Process and manage a high volume of construction and development invoices, maintaining organized project accounting records and supporting documentation.

- Review invoices for accuracy, proper approvals, and coding before entry into the accounting system.

- Maintain and update job cost records to ensure expenses are accurately allocated to the appropriate project.

- Coordinate timely payment of vendors in accordance with company policies and payment schedules.

- Monitor accounts payable activity related to construction and development projects.

- Assist with job cost reporting, project reconciliations, and variance analysis. Monitor and evaluate budget changes, ensuring proper documentation, justification, and approvals in accordance with established internal controls

- Work closely with project managers and vendors to resolve invoice discrepancies and payment inquiries.

- Assist the accounting & finance team with special projects and other accounting functions as needed.

Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

- Strong understanding of accounting principles and accounts payable processes.

- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting software systems (MRI, Yardi, etc.)

- Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail.

- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

- 2+ years of relevant experience, preferably within construction, real estate development, or project-based environments.
