Position Overview
Our client is seeking a Construction Accountant to support the financial operations of a growing construction organization. This role is ideal for an accounting professional with experience in the construction industry who understands project accounting, job costing, vendor compliance, and the unique financial processes involved in construction. While the position includes oversight of construction accounts payable activities, the primary focus is on supporting the overall accounting function with significant opportunities for career advancement into accounting leadership.
Key Responsibilities
  • Manage construction accounting activities across multiple projects.
  • Process construction-related invoices and maintain accurate financial records.
  • Perform job cost coding and monitor project costs.
  • Administer construction accounts payable and vendor payment processes.
  • Review and maintain Certificates of Insurance (COIs), lien waivers, and vendor compliance documentation.
  • Track paid-when-paid payment requirements.
  • Assist with month-end close, account reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance.
  • Support project accounting and financial reporting.
  • Assist with the implementation and continued optimization of Procore.
  • Partner with project managers and accounting leadership to ensure financial accuracy and operational efficiency.
  • Take on expanded accounting responsibilities with the opportunity to grow into a future accounting leadership position.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
  • 2-7+ years of accounting experience.
  • Construction accounting experience is required.
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Construction job costing
    • Project accounting
    • Construction accounts payable
    • Lien waivers
    • Certificates of Insurance (COIs)
    • Paid-when-paid construction payment processes
    • Vendor compliance
  • Experience with QuickBooks Enterprise is preferred.
  • Experience with Procore, including Cost Management and Project Management, is a strong plus.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
