Role Overview
The Senior IT Asset Specialist, CMDB is a experienced level individual contributor responsible for the operational integrity, and continuous improvement of the organization's CMDB and IT Asset Management capabilities. This role serves as the enterprise business owner for CMDB and IT asset data management practices, ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and reliability of configuration and asset data across infrastructure, applications, cloud platforms, and end-user environments.
This position provides enterprise leadership for CMDB data integrity, asset lifecycle management, operational reporting, audit readiness, and cross-functional data stewardship initiatives. The role partners extensively with the ServiceNow platform team and many other groups including Infrastructure, Security, Engineering, Architecture, Service Management, Finance, Procurement, Risk, and Audit teams to contribute to building and maintaining an accurate, complete and highly trusted CMDB.
The ideal candidate is a senior ITSM/ITAM professional with deep ServiceNow expertise, strong database or governance experience, and the ability to influence enterprise stakeholders while driving operational maturity across CMDB and IT asset management functions.
Key Responsibilities
Enterprise CMDB Ownership

  • Serve as the enterprise business owner and lead for the ServiceNow CMDB.
  • Define and mature CMDB data quality frameworks, standards, operational policies, and data quality controls.
  • Establish enterprise-wide accountability models for Configuration Item (CI) ownership and stewardship.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on CMDB health, data integrity, relationship mapping, and lifecycle accuracy.
  • Define and monitor CMDB KPIs and health metrics, including completeness, correctness, compliance, and reconciliation performance.
  • Lead remediation initiatives addressing stale, duplicate, orphaned, or non-compliant CI records.
  • Partner with infrastructure, cloud, application, and ServiceNow platform team to ensure consistent onboarding and maintenance of CI data.
  • Collaborate with ITAM Sr. Governance Specialist role to oversee CI taxonomy, naming standards, normalization, reconciliation rules, and Common Service Data Model (CSDM) alignment.
  • Provide strategic direction for discovery, service mapping, and automated data ingestion processes supporting the CMDB.
IT Asset Management Leadership
  • Lead enterprise IT asset management data quality and operational maturity initiatives across hardware, software, cloud, and virtual assets.
  • Ensure asset lifecycle processes align with operational, financial, security, and compliance requirements.
  • Drive improvements in asset inventory accuracy, reconciliation processes, and technology asset visibility.
  • Partner with Procurement, Finance, Security, and operational teams to ensure alignment between asset records, contracts, inventories, and CMDB data.
  • Develop scalable reporting and analytics capabilities supporting operational and executive decision-making.
  • Collaborate closely with Sr. HAM and SAM specialists on software and hardware compliance initiatives, including audit preparation and remediation activities.
  • Coordinate enterprise responses to internal and external audit requests related to technology assets, CMDB data quality, and configuration management controls.
  • Identify opportunities to automate manual processes and improve operational efficiency across ITAM and CMDB functions.
Reporting, Analytics & Data Insights
  • Develop and maintain executive dashboards, operational scorecards, and other reporting for CMDB health and IT asset management.
  • Deliver actionable analytics supporting operational management, risk reduction, incident response, vulnerability management, and change enablement processes.
  • Produce recurring and ad hoc reporting for technology leadership, audit teams, cybersecurity, finance, and regulatory stakeholders.
  • Analyze trends, data gaps, and operational risks to support continuous service improvement initiatives.
  • Drive increased visibility into technology dependencies, lifecycle status, ownership, and compliance posture.
ServiceNow Platform Strategy & Enablement
  • Partner with ServiceNow platform team, architects, and engineers to define and execute CMDB and ITAM roadmap priorities.
  • Support implementation, optimization, and governance of:
    • ServiceNow CMDB
    • Discovery
    • Service Mapping
    • Hardware Asset Management (HAM)
    • Software Asset Management (SAM)
    • Common Service Data Model (CSDM)
  • Validate that platform configurations, workflows, and integrations support governance standards and operational objectives.
  • Provide subject matter expertise for enterprise initiatives requiring accurate configuration and asset data.
Enterprise Collaboration & Influence
  • Act as the senior subject matter expert for CMDB data quality and IT asset management practices.
  • Lead CMDB discussions and influence enterprise stakeholders toward adoption of standardized processes and accountability models.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to operational teams and data stewards supporting CMDB and ITAM processes.
  • Partner with cybersecurity, operational resilience, disaster recovery, and transformation teams requiring accurate dependency and asset data.
  • Represent CMDB and ITAM capabilities during audits, risk assessments, and enterprise reviews.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Business, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7+ years of experience in IT Asset Management, Configuration Management, CMDB governance, or IT Service Management in large enterprise environments.
  • Advanced experience with ServiceNow CMDB and ITAM capabilities.
  • Strong understanding of CMDB governance, data quality management and CI lifecycle management practices.
  • Experience supporting enterprise audits, compliance initiatives, and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Strong working knowledge of ITIL principles, particularly Configuration Management and IT Asset Management.
  • Experience developing operational dashboards, data quality and exception reporting, and executive-level presentations.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and influence stakeholders without direct organizational authority.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • ServiceNow certifications such as:
    • Certified System Administrator (CSA)
    • Certified Implementation Specialist - CMDB
    • Certified Implementation Specialist - HAM or SAM
    • ITIL Foundation or advanced ITIL certifications.
  • Experience implementing or governing CSDM, Discovery, and Service Mapping capabilities.
  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure asset management and hybrid technology environments.
  • Experience operating within regulated or highly governed enterprise environments.
  • Knowledge of governance, risk, compliance, and operational resilience frameworks.
Physical Requirements
Employee must be able to perform essential functions and physical requirements of position with or without reasonable accommodation.
Working conditions consist of a normal office environment. Work is primarily sedentary and requires extensive use of a computer and involves sitting for periods of approximately four hours. Work will require standing, walking, kneeling, bending and reaching to identify asset information on fixed hardware. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently. Requires visual acuity and dexterity to view, prepare, and manipulate documents and office equipment including personal computers. The base pay scale for this position in:
Phoenix, AZ in USD per year is: $84,000 - $105,000.
Additionally, candidates are eligible for a discretionary incentive plan and benefits.
