Job description

Overview

Employment in this role is conditional upon successful execution of the contract by the client.

The Work

The Security COMSEC ISSO Support will ensure compliance with government security regulations, provide comprehensive personnel and physical security support, conduct visitor and access management, manage classified material and accountability, and perform cybersecurity/Information System Security Officer (ISSO) tasks as assigned. This critical role requires exceptional organizational skills, discretion, and experience in Department of Defense (DoD) security and COMSEC operations.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive personnel and physical security support, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and policies.
  • Manage visitor and access control processes, including the issuance of badges and access credentials, ensuring only authorized personnel gain access to secure areas.
  • Maintain classified material accountability by managing records and overseeing appropriate handling, storage, and transfers as per DoD standards.
  • Serve as a COMSEC custodian, maintaining COMSEC inventories and ensuring proper implementation of communications security policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Facilitate incident reporting related to cybersecurity, physical security, and COMSEC, and take required actions to resolve and document incidents in compliance with established protocols.
  • Execute authorized Information System Security Officer (ISSO) support tasks to ensure the secure operation of information systems.
  • Consistently coordinate local execution of cybersecurity, ISSO, and COMSEC activities with the enterprise Cybersecurity/Information Assurance/COMSEC Manager to ensure alignment with federal and organizational security policies and procedures.
  • Preserve segregation of duties by adhering to established policies preventing overlap with System Administrator (SA) duties and routine bargaining-unit work.
  • Maintain current training, certifications, and required appointments, including COMSEC custodian certifications, DoD 8140/Department of Defense Cyber Workforce Framework (DCWF)-aligned qualifications, and other security-related requirements as dictated by the specific role.
  • Perform thorough cross-training and coverage to ensure readiness, maintaining expertise in all security/COMSEC/ISSO tasks while avoiding potential conflicts with SA responsibilities.
  • Ensure compliance with range, safety, security, and access protocols unique to the remote desert/range site mission environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Security Management, Information Systems, or a related field preferred. Equivalent military or technical experience will be considered.
  • Active DoD 8140/DCWF qualification, COMSEC custodian certification, and Security+ certification or equivalent.
  • Completed training or certifications in ISSO, information assurance, or cybersecurity tasks.
  • Minimum of 4+ years of experience in roles requiring expertise in DoD COMSEC, information assurance, personnel/physical security, classified operations, or related areas.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with:
    • COMSEC operations, including key accountabilities and device management.
    • Classified-material control measures.
    • Access and visitor control for secure facilities.
    • Incident reporting and response protocols in security and cybersecurity contexts.
    • Maintaining security records and documentation for audits
  • Top Secret/ SCI Clearance is required.
  • Must be able to pass a background check. May require additional background checks as required by projects and/or clients at any time during employment.

Reports to: Program Manager

Working Conditions

  • Remote desert and range environment with limited immediate services and facilities.
  • Exposure to extreme environmental conditions, including high temperatures during the day, cold temperatures at night, wind, dust storms, and other weather-related challenges.
  • Working in operational and technical spaces such as equipment rooms and maintenance areas.
  • Use of stairs and ladders is often required to access certain areas of the site or equipment.
  • Operating in confined spaces with strict adherence to safety protocols.
  • 24/7 operational readiness, with an expectation of occasional after-hours support for incidents, exercises, deadlines, and travel obligations.
  • Must safely operate in proximity to sensitive and classified optical, mechanical, and electrical systems.
  • Must be physically and mentally able to perform duties extended periods of time.
  • Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed to meet the demands of this position.
  • Must be able to establish a productive and professional workspace.
  • May be asked to work a flexible schedule which may include holidays.
  • May be asked to travel for business or professional development purposes.
  • May be asked to work hours outside of normal business hours.
