Role Overview of a Director of Data Analytics

The Director of Data Analytics is a strategic IT leadership role responsible for enabling business insight, operational visibility, and data-driven decision-making across the organization. This leader will oversee enterprise reporting, analytics, dashboarding, and business intelligence capabilities that transform governed enterprise data into meaningful and actionable information for business and operational stakeholders.

Reporting directly to the Vice President of IT, the Director will partner closely with business leaders and technology teams to establish scalable and trusted analytics capabilities aligned with organizational priorities and operational objectives. This role is responsible for driving adoption of enterprise reporting and analytics solutions while ensuring consistent, understandable, and business-aligned delivery of insights across the organization.

The Director of Data Analytics will partner closely with the Director of Enterprise Data Platform to ensure enterprise reporting and analytics solutions are built upon governed, certified, and scalable enterprise data assets and services.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrates the Company’s mission, while successfully performing its core values related to integrity, service, excellence, stability, strength, respect, and teamwork.
  • Regular and timely attendance in the office is an essential function of the position.
  • Lead the strategy, delivery, and operational management of enterprise reporting, dashboarding, analytics, and business intelligence capabilities.
  • Establish scalable and sustainable analytics practices that support operational reporting, executive decision-making, and enterprise insight generation.
  • Develop and maintain enterprise standards and best practices for reporting, visualization, dashboard design, and analytics delivery.
  • Drive continuous improvement of enterprise analytics capabilities, self-service reporting adoption, and business insight delivery.
Business Intelligence & Insight Enablement
  • Partner with business leaders and operational teams to identify reporting, analytics, and decision-support needs across the organization.
  • Translate business requirements into scalable reporting and analytics solutions that provide actionable and meaningful insights.
  • Oversee development and support of enterprise dashboards, reports, scorecards, and analytical solutions.
  • Facilitate delivery of executive, operational, and strategic reporting aligned to organizational priorities and performance objectives.
  • Promote effective data storytelling, visualization standards, and business-friendly presentation of analytical information.
Enterprise Analytics Governance & Adoption
  • Establish and maintain enterprise standards for reporting consistency, dashboard usability, analytics lifecycle management, and business-aligned metric consumption.
  • Partner with the Director of Enterprise Data Platform to ensure reporting and analytics solutions leverage governed and certified enterprise datasets.
  • Collaborate with business domains to support contextual analytical needs while promoting enterprise-aligned reporting practices and transparency.
  • Support enterprise adoption of analytics tools, self-service reporting capabilities, and data literacy initiatives.
  • Promote trust, usability, and consistency of enterprise analytics and reporting solutions across business functions.
Collaboration & Business Partnership
  • Collaborate with actuarial, finance, operations, underwriting, claims, marketing, and other business areas to support analytical and operational insight needs.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to IT and business leadership on reporting strategy, analytics enablement, KPI development, and operational visibility opportunities.
  • Partner with enterprise technology teams to align analytics capabilities with organizational priorities and enterprise initiatives.
  • Support enterprise initiatives requiring scalable reporting, business intelligence, operational visibility, and data-driven decision-making capabilities.
Leadership & Team Development
  • Lead, mentor, and develop analytics and reporting team members while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Establish operational objectives, performance expectations, and career development opportunities for team members.
  • Promote collaboration across analytics, enterprise data platform, application development, infrastructure, and business teams.
  • Foster a culture focused on business partnership, analytical rigor, operational excellence, and delivery of actionable insights.
Skills and QualificationsEducation & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Analytics, Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related field (master’s degree preferred).
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in analytics, business intelligence, reporting, or related technology leadership roles.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience managing analytics, reporting, or business intelligence teams and initiatives.
  • Experience delivering enterprise reporting, dashboarding, and analytical capabilities within complex organizational environments.
  • Experience partnering with business leaders to define metrics, operational reporting, and analytical solutions aligned to organizational goals.
  • Strong knowledge of business intelligence, reporting, analytics, dashboarding, and data visualization principles and practices.
  • Experience with enterprise analytics platforms, reporting tools, self-service analytics, and modern business intelligence technologies.
  • Strong understanding of KPI development, operational reporting, and analytics lifecycle management.
  • Ability to balance business partnership, operational execution, and scalable analytics enablement within a complex organizational environment.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills with the ability to align technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive organizational adoption of analytics capabilities and establish scalable reporting standards and practices.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with attention to usability, business value, and operational effectiveness.
Certifications (Preferred)
