Job description

About the Role
This is a high-impact, early-stage opportunity to build and own community from the ground up at a fast-moving ambient AI startup in the personal productivity space. As Community Operations Lead, you'll be the voice and face of the company to its most engaged early users - shaping how the team connects with the community, gathers insights, and fuels growth through authentic engagement across Discord, X, and beyond.
You'll work directly with senior leadership to define and scope the role as it evolves. There's no pre-built playbook here - you'll write it. This is a hybrid role based in San Francisco, CA. Visa sponsorship is not available.
What You'll Do
  • Build and run community presence across platforms where early users are active (Discord, X, and others)
  • Own moderation, engagement, and day-to-day community operations to keep the community healthy and thriving
  • Coordinate community events and touchpoints, both digital and in-person
  • Partner with product and research teams to leverage the community for UX research and user studies
  • Collaborate with go-to-market teams to execute coordinated campaigns with the most dedicated users
  • Serve as a key, visible figure in the community - representing the company's values and vision
  • Define processes and scope as new challenges and opportunities surface
What We're Looking For
Required (dealbreakers):
  • 2+ years of direct experience building or meaningfully growing an online community for a B2C or prosumer product
  • Demonstrated experience managing community operations: moderation, engagement, and day-to-day management across platforms such as Discord, X, or similar
  • Proven ability to independently make decisions, resolve conflicts, and drive user engagement without predefined processes or playbooks

Also required:
  • Experience coordinating and executing community events, both digital and in-person
  • Experience partnering with product and research teams to conduct user research, gather feedback, and inform product decisions
  • Experience executing go-to-market campaigns and coordinating with marketing or GTM teams
  • Operational capability to define scope, prioritize work, and manage ambiguous or evolving responsibilities
  • Strong project management instincts and sharp attention to detail

Nice to have:
  • In-person event coordination and logistics experience
  • Multilingual proficiency
Compensation & Benefits
Compensation details will be shared during the interview process and are competitive for an early-stage AI startup in San Francisco.
Location
This is a hybrid role based in San Francisco, CA. Candidates must be locally based or willing to relocate. Visa sponsorship is not available.
