Salary: $45,000–$52,000 annually, depending on qualifications and experience

Volunteer Fairfax is seeking an organized, relationship-focused professional to lead community engagement initiatives that strengthen Northern Virginia through volunteerism and service.

No two days are the same. One day you may be planning a volunteer initiative from your home office. The next you may be leading a community improvement project, meeting with nonprofit partners, coordinating a corporate volunteer engagement, or supporting emergency preparedness efforts.

Volunteer Fairfax is the region's center for volunteerism and community engagement, connecting people and organizations to strengthen Northern Virginia through meaningful service.

As Volunteer Fairfax continues to evolve, we are expanding beyond traditional volunteer projects to build innovative partnerships, strengthen nonprofit capacity, mobilize volunteers, support emergency response, and launch new initiatives such as Benefits Bridge.

What You'll Do

• Lead the planning, implementation, and evaluation of community and corporate volunteer engagement projects.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with nonprofit organizations, businesses, volunteers, and community partners.
• Lead assigned community engagement initiatives, including implementation of Volunteer Fairfax's Benefits Bridge program.
• Exercise independent judgment in managing projects, prioritizing resources, solving operational challenges, and recommending process improvements.
• Represent Volunteer Fairfax professionally with nonprofit leaders, corporate partners, government agencies, elected officials, volunteers, donors, and the public.
• Support Volunteer Fairfax's emergency preparedness efforts while assuming increasing responsibility as community resilience initiatives continue to grow.
• Participate in project implementation, including project setup, logistics, transportation of materials, and hands-on volunteer activities when needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education, professional experience, military service, AmeriCorps or other national service, and demonstrated competencies.
• CVA credential (or willingness to earn)
• Experience leading projects, building partnerships, volunteer engagement initiatives, nonprofit operations, community relations, event management, parks and recreation, education, or a related field.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Professional presence with the ability to confidently represent Volunteer Fairfax.
• Valid driver's license and ability to meet Volunteer Fairfax's vehicle insurance eligibility requirements.
• Ability to safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Ability to operate Volunteer Fairfax vehicles and rental cargo vans or box trucks.
• Employment contingent upon successful completion of a background check consistent with applicable law.

Work Environment

• Hybrid position with most planning and administrative responsibilities performed remotely.
• Minimum one day each week in the Volunteer Fairfax office.
•  Regular in-person attendance for volunteer projects, meetings, community events, trainings, and emergency response.
• Regular travel throughout Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C.
• Occasional evening, weekend, and overnight travel outside the region.
