Our Senior Commercial Analyst will work on a dynamic and high responsibility hedging environment. You will have the opportunity to be in a visible position entailing considerable interaction with the front, middle, and regulatory groups. Collects economic and financial information specific to a commodity market, conducts market sector or statistical analysis and interprets key market data elements into useful business information. The Senior Commercial Analyst will directly interface with MISO markets and automate data analysis for the Company. The Senior Commercial Analyst is expected to perform high level analytic work and modeling.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the validation of forward pricing, basis, and volatility curves.
  • Validate key market assumptions with market data and tracks project performance. Research and quantify deviations between forecast, budget, and actual results.
  • Support data aggregation efforts each morning to implement approved day ahead trading strategies across the asset fleet
  • Lead Day-Ahead and Real-Time offer process in the MISO markets
  • Support AES Indiana position in Capacity and Financial Transmission Rights Markets
  • Participating in MISO (Midcontinent Independent System Operator) filings and data requests
  • Help identify market opportunities based on real-time positions and analysis of market conditions
  • Leverages broad scope of knowledge when performing analysis on data sets.
  • Performs high level analysis and modeling. May develop quantitative/analytic models with an emphasis on automation of reports
  • Conducts research including identifying data, data input, and statistical analysis of results and creates and maintains data analysis and reports.
  • Prepares presentations to present analysis.
  • Work closely with regulatory, forecasting, and wholesale fuel groups
  • Responds to internal requests from other functions for data and analysis.
  • Support Fuel Adjustment Charge (FAC) proceeding data request.

Basic Qualifications:

  • BA/BS in Mathematics, Economics, Finance, Engineering, Business, and/or related field of study preferred. Equivalent experience within their discipline is also considered.
  • 3-7 years of experience in energy trading, scheduling, as supporting front office/desk analyst, or related energy industry analysis work preferred.
  • Knowledge of wholesale electricity and natural gas markets.
  • Persistent with a natural curiosity about energy market fundamentals and technical details.
  • Displays well-rounded communication skills that implement good listening techniques, clear, concise writing style; and good verbal skills. The ability to communicate across a wide range of groups and personalities internally and externally.
  • Works well in a team environment, focusing on collaboration and adapting to the needs of a diverse team.
  • Adept at managing multiple tasks and adhering to regular deadlines. Able to adjust priorities throughout the day.
  • Experience with tools such as Power BI, Microsoft Excel, SQL, Python, and R preferred.
