Job Title: Controller
Location: Shreveport, LA
Reports To: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)/ VP of Finance
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Controller to lead the financial operations of a privately owned marketing agency. This role is responsible for overseeing day-to-day accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, cash flow management, payroll, and internal controls while supporting executive leadership with strategic financial insights. The ideal candidate will bring strong operational accounting expertise, agency or professional services experience, and the ability to build scalable financial processes in a dynamic, creative business environment.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
* Oversee all accounting functions including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and month-end/year-end close
* Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
* Manage budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
* Monitor agency profitability by client, department, and project
* Develop and maintain cash flow forecasts and working capital strategies
* Present financial reports and key insights to ownership and leadership team
* Prepare ad-hoc reports to all departments upon request
Operational Oversight
* Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable tax regulations
* Manage banking relationships, insurance, and vendor contracts
* Oversee revenue recognition, project costing, and commission/incentive structures
* Improve financial systems, reporting tools, and internal processes for efficiency
* Establish and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets
* Support strategic planning, pricing models, and business growth initiatives
Team Leadership
* Supervise and mentor accounting staff or outsourced accounting partners
* Foster a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement
* Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, HR, and client service teams
Tax & Compliance
* Coordinate with external CPA firm for tax preparation and filings
* Manage sales tax, payroll tax, and state/federal compliance
* Support annual insurance renewals and financial documentation needs
* Oversee external compliance audits as needed
Qualifications
* Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred but not required)
* 7+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, with at least 3 years in a Controller or senior accounting leadership role
* Experience in marketing agencies, advertising, professional services, or project-based businesses strongly preferred
* Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, budgeting, and cash flow management
* Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, Sage Intacct, or similar)
* Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills
* Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership abilities
* Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
