Job description

This is a leadership role that combines technical accounting expertise with hands-on operational finance and strategic business partnership. The Controller (Property & Casualty Insurance)

Responsibilities

  • Provide financial partnership with the Executive team to ensure the financial and operational goals of the company are aligned.

  • Create the annual budget and provide appropriate metrics throughout the year to measure variance for management of the company goals.

  • Oversee the financial team to ensure timely and accurate information for monthly, quarterly and annual reporting. Provide financial partnership with the Executive team to ensure the financial and operational goals of the company are aligned.

  • Partner with corporate Accounting/Finance to provide timely reporting of financial performance including relevant trend/variance explanations.

  • Oversee the Accounts Receivable process to ensure timely reconciliation of commission receipts and application of policy details into the operating system to support accurate operational reporting.

  • Oversee the Accounts Payable process to ensure liabilities are identified and resolved timely and accurately.

  • Manage the Cash Management functions ensuring cash availability to support operating needs. Partner with corporate Treasury to manage local banking needs.

  • Establish and maintain a strong controls environment in financial, operational and compliance related functions throughout the organization.

  • Oversee the administrative functions of the local office to ensure daily functions are covered as needed and for the organization acting as the primary liaison between corporate administrative functions and local operations. These include Human Resources, Payroll, Compliance and Legal.

  • Partner with corporate Tax to provide necessary information for tax reporting or audit requirements.

  • Manage any system/process integrations or changes deemed necessary, ensuring seamless conversion without interrupting ongoing operations.

  • Manage local, state and federal financial, tax or compliance related issues which are not controlled at the corporate level.

  • Perform ad hoc accounting and finance projects as needed.

Qualifications & Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in accounting

  • CPA (strongly preferred)

  • SEC and PCAOB experience preferred

  • Big Four or comparable public accounting experience, a plus

  • Extensive knowledge of US GAAP accounting

  • 10+ years of previous accounting experience

  • Insurance industry experience required with Property/Casualty insurance

  • Self-motivated, strategic thinker and a hands-on leader

  • A leader of people who is influenced by earning the respect of team members
