Commission Fence information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Commission Fence Sales Representative, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Commission Fence Sales Representative, you need strong sales acumen, product knowledge of fencing materials, and often a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with CRM software, quoting systems, and basic construction measurement tools is typically required. Exceptional communication, negotiation skills, and customer service orientation help in building client relationships and closing deals. These skills ensure you can effectively generate leads, meet sales targets, and deliver solutions that satisfy both the customer and the company.

What are commission fence jobs?

Commission fence jobs involve selling fencing products or services, where the employee earns a commission based on sales made rather than a fixed salary. These roles typically require strong sales skills, knowledge of different types of fencing (such as wood, chain-link, or vinyl), and the ability to consult with clients about their needs. Commission fence salespeople may work for fencing companies or as independent contractors. The commission structure can vary, but it usually rewards high performers with higher earnings.

What is the difference between Commission Fence vs Fence Installer?

AspectCommission FenceFence Installer
CredentialsMay require contractor licenses, certifications in fencingTypically requires on-the-job training, certifications vary
Work EnvironmentConstruction sites, outdoor environmentsOutdoor residential/commercial sites
Industry UsageUsed by fencing companies, contractorsUsed by fencing companies, independent installers

Commission Fence generally refers to a fencing contractor involved in sales, project management, and installation, often working on commission-based pay. Fence Installers focus on the physical installation of fences, often with less emphasis on sales or project management. Both roles are essential in the fencing industry, but they differ in responsibilities and scope.

What are some common challenges faced by commission-based fence sales professionals, and how can they be overcome?

Commission-based fence sales professionals often encounter challenges such as building a consistent pipeline of leads, managing customer expectations, and dealing with seasonal fluctuations in demand. Success in this role typically requires strong networking skills, the ability to educate clients on different fencing options, and persistence in follow-up communications. Leveraging CRM tools, staying up-to-date on local market trends, and collaborating closely with installation teams can help overcome these hurdles and improve sales performance.

About Fence Masters

Fence Masters is a fast-growing Chicago-area fencing company specializing in commercial and residential fencing solutions. We pride ourselves on high-quality craftsmanship, dependable project execution, and strong customer service. We are seeking motivated team members looking to grow long-term within the company.

Position Overview

Fence Masters is looking for a driven professional to join our team on the Commercial Sales & Estimating side. This dynamic, hybrid role blends in-office planning with on-site fieldwork, requiring you to interpret commercial blueprints, generate precise estimates, and engage directly with clients across the Chicago area. If you possess a strong background in fencing or construction trades combined with a passion for sales, this is an excellent opportunity to advance your career with a thriving company. We particularly encourage applicants with hands-on fencing installation experience who are eager to transition into a strategic sales and estimating capacity.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and present estimates for commercial fencing projects based on plans, drawings, and site visits

• Perform quantity takeoffs and material calculations from construction documents

• Conduct in-person sales meetings with general contractors, property managers, and commercial clients

• Travel locally to job sites to assess scope, walk projects, and build client relationships

• Collaborate with project managers and installation crews to ensure accurate and competitive bids

• Maintain organized records of bids, proposals, and client communications using Excel and related tools

• Review and mark up project plans using AutoCAD or similar software

Qualifications

• Previous sales experience; fencing or fence industry sales strongly preferred

• Ability to read and interpret commercial construction plans and perform material takeoffs

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel required; AutoCAD experience preferred

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills

• Valid driver's license and ability to drive locally throughout the Chicago area

• Computer literate and comfortable working in a fast-paced, field-and-office environment

• Self-motivated, organized, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously

Schedule & Compensation

• In-office and in-field throughout the Chicago area

• Base salary: $50,000–$60,000 annually, plus commission (negotiable based on experience)

• Competitive commission structure with substantial earning potential for high-performing sales professionals.

• This is a new position with real opportunity for career and compensation growth within the company

• Company vehicle or car allowance provided; package negotiable based on experience and business needs.

Compensation Range: $50K - $60K
