What is a cold caller?

A Cold Caller is a sales or marketing professional who contacts potential customers who have not previously expressed interest in a product or service. Their goal is to generate leads, schedule appointments, or directly sell a product. Cold calling requires strong communication skills, persistence, and the ability to handle rejection. These professionals often follow scripts and use persuasive techniques to engage prospects.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a cold caller?

To thrive as a Cold Caller, you need excellent verbal communication, resilience, and the ability to quickly engage prospects or customers, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with customer relationship management (CRM) systems and autodialer software is typically required. Strong listening skills, adaptability, and a positive attitude help top performers overcome objections and build rapport. These skills ensure high productivity, consistent lead generation, and increased conversion rates in a results-driven environment.

What are some common challenges faced by cold callers, and how can they be managed?

Cold Callers often face challenges such as frequent rejections, maintaining motivation, and adapting their scripts for different types of prospects. Handling objections and remaining positive despite setbacks is key to long-term success in this role. Many companies provide training and support, including ongoing coaching, scripts, and regular team meetings to help Cold Callers improve their techniques. Building resilience and utilizing feedback from supervisors and peers can make the role more rewarding and improve your performance over time.

Does a cold caller work anymore?

Cold calling remains a common sales technique for cold callers, who typically make unsolicited calls to potential clients to generate leads. While the approach has evolved with technology, such as using customer relationship management (CRM) tools, many companies still employ cold callers as part of their outreach strategies, often combining it with digital marketing efforts.

Job description

B2B Cold Caller and Appointment Setter

We're looking for a confident communicator to join our sales team. In this role, you'll introduce our services to marketing executives across the United States, identify potential opportunities, and schedule qualified meetings for our sales team. Previous cold-calling or B2B sales experience is helpful but not essential. We welcome applications from recent graduates, career changers, and motivated individuals with excellent communication skills.

If you're smart, ambitious, and coachable, this is the one you've been looking for.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prospect. Make outbound cold calls to marketing executives and business decision-makers across the United States.
  • Engage. Speak with decision-makers such as Marketing Directors, Marketing Managers, Chief Marketing Officers (CMOs), Digital Marketing Managers, Growth Marketing Managers, Brand Managers, and business owners.
  • Present. Introduce our services in a clear, professional, and conversational manner.
  • Qualify. Build rapport, ask thoughtful qualifying questions, and identify prospective clients who are a good fit for our services.
  • Handle objections. Respond professionally to common questions and objections while maintaining a positive customer experience.
  • Book meetings. Schedule qualified appointments for our sales team and ensure accurate calendar coordination.
  • Maintain records. Keep accurate CRM records, including call outcomes, notes, and follow-up activities.
  • Improve continuously. Participate in call reviews, role-play sessions, and ongoing coaching to strengthen your sales skills.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • Excellent communication. Clear spoken English that can be easily understood by customers in the United States.
  • Confidence. Comfortable speaking with senior business decision-makers over the phone.
  • Active listening. Able to ask insightful questions and understand customer needs.
  • Coachability. Welcomes feedback and applies it to improve performance.
  • Resilience. Maintains a positive attitude and persistence when facing rejection.
  • Curiosity. Enjoys learning about businesses and uncovering opportunities through conversation.
  • Organisation. Strong attention to detail with the ability to accurately maintain CRM records and follow-up activities.
  • Fast learner. Quickly understands new products, services, and sales techniques.
  • Professionalism. Represents the company with confidence and integrity in every interaction.
  • Natural communication. Able to follow a structured sales process while sounding authentic and conversational, rather than reading mechanically from a script.
Nice to Have
  • Experience. Previous experience in marketing, cold calling, telesales, appointment setting, customer service, or B2B sales is preferred but not required. We believe communication skills, coachability, and a willingness to learn are stronger predictors of success than experience alone.
Benefits
  • Comprehensive training. Learn our products, services, and proven outbound sales process.
  • Ongoing coaching. Receive regular feedback, call reviews, and mentoring to help you succeed.
  • Career development. Build highly transferable communication, negotiation, and business development skills.
  • Remote flexibility. Work remotely with a supportive team.
  • Competitive pay. Earn USD $4–$8 per hour, depending on relevant experience, communication skills, demonstrated sales ability, and overall fit for the role. Bonuses are available for strong performance, including qualified meetings successfully booked.
  • Growth opportunities. This role has the potential to become an ongoing position for the right candidate, with opportunities for growth as you develop your skills and contribute to the team's success.
