Job description

TalentBurst, Inc is seeking a travel nurse RN Med Surg / Telemetry for a travel nursing job in Macon, Georgia.

Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 12hr Night Shift - 36 Shift Information: 7P-7A Clinical Interviewing- Yes - Manager Approval to Offer On Call, Call Back Requirements: None Weekend Rotation: 6 shifts on a 6 week schedule (6 out of 12 shifts) Holiday Requirements: Travelers will work 75% of holidays Floating Requirements: all med surg / telemetry units **Start Date- Oct-5th**

Unit Information:
  • Beds: 35
    • Census: 35
Minimum Years of Experience required: 2 years Med/Tele RN experience
  • Will you accept a first-time traveler: Yes
Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:
  • Patients with acute or chronic disease
  • Post-op surgeries
  • Co-morbidities common to med-surg population: diabetes, hypertension, infections, CHF, electrolytes imbalances
Patient Ratios:
  • RN: 1:4-6
  • LPN: 1:4-6
  • CNA: 2-3 per shift
Required License, National Certification, Certs (BLS, ACLS, etc.), or other position specific requirements such as Driver's License and/or Insurance:
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) required
  • BCR (Basic Cardiac Rythm) required โ€“ meaning traveler will be required to pass an EKG competency exam as part of Compliance
  • ACLS - preferred not required
  • National certification- Medical-Surgical certification - preferred
Skills required:
  • trach chare, chest tube management, PIV starts, glucommander, insulin drips, heparin drips, drips to titrate Heart Rate but not Blood Pressure
  • Strong clinical assessment and med-surg nursing skills for Level 1 Trauma Hospital
  • IV insertion and care, central line management
  • Wound care and post op monitoring
  • Cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation
  • Care coordination with interdisciplinary teams
  • Discharge planning and patient education management
Support within the Department:
  • CNA: Duties: Yes - assist with VS, Glucose Checks, baths, feeding, ambulating patients, assisting turning patients, hourly rounding, transporting patients as needed (Hospital has designated Transport Team); obtain blood from blood bank
  • Receptionist/HUC: Unit secretary on unit 7a-11p; then house wide call secretary 11p-7a
  • Charge nurse โ€“ may have patients
  • Phlebotomy: Most units are lab collect phlebotomy; nurses drawn from CVLs
  • IV/VAT Team: Not an IV team - do have a PICC team
  • Resource Nurse: Yes, we have discharge nurses, resource team floats to all units
  • RT 24/7: yes
  • Hospitalist 24/7: yes
  • Intensivist 24/7: yes
  • Telemetry monitoring/tech: Central Telemetry Unit
Technology/Equipment:
  • EMR: EPIC
  • IV Pump: Alaris
  • Med dispensing: Pyxis
  • Monitors: Phillips
Unit specific equipment:
  • VS3 vital sign monitors, Nova Glucose Stat Strips Cardiac Telemetry monitoring
  • Portable vital signs monitors (Dynamapp)
  • Bladder scanners, IV pump, portable oxygen system
  • External fixators, chest tubes, JP drains and Hemovac drains
  • Glucommander
  • PCA pain management
  • Suction machine
  • Use of admission/ discharge protocol for rapid turnover
Floating: If yes, where:
  • All adult med surg / telemetry units in house
Orientation (facility and unit):
  • 1 day orientation with work on educational modules
  • 2 days departmental
Other notes:
  • Scrub Color: RN- Navy; LPN- Ceil Blue
  • Parking: Free: Have free parking around campus or can pay to park in parking decks
  • Unit Culture: busy but work as team
