Job description

Overview

Location: Divisional Headquarters, Finance Department (Hartford, CT)

Status: Non-exempt, Full-time

Hours Per Week: 37.5

Schedule: Monday-Friday; 8:30 am-4:00 pm

Scope of Position: Process expenses from all Corps and Area Services into the accounting package while adhering to The Salvation Army's accounting policies and procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Always maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Apply accounting principles and practices following standardized, well-established procedures, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Assist Corps Officers with the preparation of financial-related materials for audits.
  • Assist in month-end closing procedures.
  • Input financial-related data into computer systems and maintain financial reports and records related to programs.
  • Institute safeguards to ensure the integrity and maintenance of the accounting system.
  • Maintain an unpaid invoice file; input invoices and other delinquent data into the accounts payable module after invoices/data have been reviewed by the Corps Officer for accuracy and coded to proper accounts and departments within the program.
  • Maintain and oversee maintenance of financial documents (check vouchers, payroll, etc.).
  • Provide coverage for the Accounts Receivable Clerks.
  • Record and post expenses into the computer system. Corps Officers will advise which payables to process based on available funds.
Qualifications
  • An associate degree in accounting or business management, or three years of experience, is highly preferred.
  • Ability to manipulate large amounts of data.
  • Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office, accounting software, and databases.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proven knowledge of accounting principles, practices, standards, laws, and regulations.
  • Should be well organized, show strong initiative, and have adequate follow-through.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Will respect and promote the interests of The Salvation Army. The individual is not required to embrace the tenets of faith, but they are required to promote and respect The Salvation Army's mission.
