About the Position
  • Clinical Lab Assistant
  • Temporary Full Time: 1.0 FTE (80 hours per pay period) to last approximately 2 months
  • Days, Evenings, every 3rd weekend
  • Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital Laboratory Department

Job Summary:
The CLA performs laboratory specimen collection, specimen processing, as well as provides for safe and secure specimen handling and point of care testing when appropriate. The LCT enters order and collection information into the Laboratory Information System and associated subsystems, schedules tests and procedures, and provides results in the LIS/HIS and over the phone.
Here's what you'll do when you join us:
  • Follow established guidelines to obtain laboratory specimens and places laboratory orders when appropriate
  • Processe all specimen types to prepare for testing
  • Ensure that waived testing results are reported correctly and seeks help when corrective action is needed
  • May be involved with phlebotomy training when appropriate
  • Follow laboratory and /or laboratory supervision direction
  • Complete annual competency.
  • Accurately enter orders and collection information into LIS and subsystems
  • Provide results in LIS/HIS and reports over the phone
  • Understand and use scientific and technical language and symbols.
  • Recognize slight differences in shape, color, and texture.
  • Use eyes, hands and fingers to operate delicate and sensitive equipment.
  • Work precisely and accurately.
  • Follow technical instructions which may be oral, written, or in the form of charts or drawings.
  • Use measurable and verifiable information for making decisions or judgments.

If you have these qualifications, we'd love to chat:
  1. Completion of a phlebotomy training course or phlebotomy experience in a clinical laboratory setting desired.
  2. Experience in a health care related field preferred.
  3. Good interpersonal communication skills
  4. Demonstrate ability to follow and adhere to Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital policies, vision, mission and values.
  5. Maintain reliable and consistent attendance.
