What are some entry level jobs in health informatics?
What is the difference between Clinical Informatics vs Medical Informatics?
| Aspect | Clinical Informatics | Medical Informatics |
|---|---|---|
| Credentials | Often requires certifications like CAHIMS or CPHIMS | Similar certifications, with additional focus on broader healthcare data |
| Work Environment | Hospitals, clinics, healthcare systems | Research institutions, healthcare IT companies, academia |
| Employer & Industry | Healthcare providers, hospitals | Healthcare technology firms, research organizations |
| Search & Comparison Intent | Focuses on clinical settings and patient care | Encompasses broader healthcare data management and policy |
Clinical Informatics primarily concentrates on applying informatics to improve patient care within clinical settings. Medical Informatics has a broader scope, including healthcare data management, research, and policy. Both roles require similar certifications and often overlap in skills, but their focus areas differ based on work environment and industry applications.

- Design and facilitate stakeholder engagement sessions with leaders, clinicians, and IT personnel to ensure transparency and consensus building. >
- Development and delivery of training programs for clinical and technical audiences, utilizing blended learning, eLearning, and live instruction. >
- Assess learning needs, develop customized content, and measure post-training competency and adoption. >
- Support PI planning, backlog prioritization, sprint reviews, and stakeholder demos to ensure OCM considerations are integrated with Agile product teams. >
- Collect and act on iterative feedback to refine change, training, and communications plans. >
- Define and report on OCM, training, and adoption metrics for executive and project steering committees. >

- Expertise applying formal OCM frameworks (e.g., Prosci, ADKAR model) to large-scale health informatics initiatives. >
- Proven ability to develop and deliver training and communications for clinical and technical stakeholders. >
- Familiarity with VA health IT platforms (VistA/CPRS, Cerner Millennium/Oracle Health) and federal interoperability standards (HL7, FHIR). >
- U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain/maintain a federal security clearance (Public Trust or higher). >
