Job description

Spire Global is seeking a visionary and execution-focused Director, Product Management to lead product strategy for our Weather & Climate business unit. This senior leadership role is accountable for the full product lifecycle โ€” from market discovery and business case development through roadmap execution and commercial launch โ€” across our SaaS and DaaS portfolio.

Reporting to executive leadership, the Director will partner closely with Sales, Marketing, Customer Experience, Engineering, and Data Science teams to identify unmet industry needs, define differentiated solutions, and bring first-to-market products that generate durable revenue and competitive advantage. The ideal candidate combines deep domain expertise in meteorology, atmospheric science, or weather technology with the commercial instincts and leadership skills to shape a high-growth product portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

Product Strategy & Roadmap

  • Define and own the multi-year product strategy and roadmap for Spire's Weather & Climate SaaS and DaaS portfolio, aligned with corporate growth objectives
  • Conduct continuous market research, competitive intelligence, and customer discovery to identify high-value industry problems and whitespace opportunities
  • Develop and prioritize product investment theses backed by rigorous business cases, financial modeling, and ROI analysis
  • Identify and execute first-to-market product opportunities that create competitive moats and expand Spire's addressable market

Product Development & Execution

  • Lead cross-functional product development from concept through general availability, partnering with engineering, data science, and design teams
  • Apply agile product development methodologies with structured stage-gate processes for new market entries
  • Define product requirements, acceptance criteria, and success metrics; hold teams accountable to delivery timelines and quality standards
  • Collaborate with the weather modeling team to integrate AI/ML modeling and toolsets into software products and services
  • Integrate Spire's GNSS-RO, GNSS-R, and Hyperspectral Microwave Sounding data into end user products and solutions, including ocean surface winds forecasts and soil moisture forecasts derived from GNSS-R
  • Champion the adoption of AI tools across the product management and software development lifecycles โ€” including AI-assisted roadmapping, requirements generation, code acceleration, automated testing, and documentation โ€” to increase team velocity and product output

Commercial & Go-to-Market Leadership

  • Partner with Sales to develop solution narratives, competitive positioning, pricing frameworks, and deal support for strategic accounts
  • Provide sales engineering support to the Sales team โ€” including technical demonstrations, proof-of-concept engagements, RFP/RFI responses, and solution scoping for complex enterprise opportunities
  • Collaborate with Marketing on product launch campaigns, industry event strategy, and demand generation content
  • Engage directly with enterprise customers and strategic prospects to validate roadmap direction, gather use-case requirements, and close feedback loops
  • Work with Customer Experience to monitor product adoption, retention risk, and NPS signals โ€” translating insights into product improvements
  • Build and maintain competitive intelligence frameworks to anticipate competitor moves and proactively flank with superior solutions

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of product managers across the Weather & Climate portfolio
  • Represent Weather & Climate product strategy to the executive team, board-level stakeholders, and external partners
  • Contribute to M&A evaluation, partnership diligence, and integration planning as the product subject matter expert

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of progressive product management experience with demonstrated ownership of commercial weather, meteorological, or atmospheric data products
  • Deep technical domain expertise in at least three of the following: numerical weather prediction (NWP), mesoscale meteorology, GNSS-RO atmospheric sounding, AI/ML-based forecasting, radar/satellite data processing, or climate modeling
  • Demonstrated experience adopting and scaling AI tools within product management and software development workflows โ€” such as AI-assisted product discovery, sprint planning, code generation, QA automation, or technical documentation โ€” to measurably accelerate delivery
  • Proven track record delivering SaaS and/or DaaS products from concept to full production in a B2B enterprise environment
  • Experience developing and presenting business cases with financial models, market sizing, build/buy/partner analysis, and executive-level approval
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize customer and market intelligence into actionable product strategies that generate measurable revenue
  • Strong commercial instincts with hands-on experience partnering with Sales and Marketing to drive pipeline generation and customer retention
  • Experience applying agile product development methodologies in cross-functional engineering environments
  • Excellent executive communication skills โ€” written, verbal, and visual โ€” with ability to influence without authority across all organizational levels
  • Bachelor's degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, Data Science, or a related field strongly preferred
  • MBA or graduate business degree is a plus, particularly for candidates with a strong technical background seeking to deepen commercial and strategic acumen
  • Experience with aviation weather products, METARs/TAFs, turbulence/icing models, or aviation-specific forecasting platforms
  • Background in energy markets, commodity trading analytics, or agricultural technology products
  • Familiarity with space-based remote sensing, GNSS-RO, SAR, or satellite-derived data products
  • Experience at a data/analytics company with API-delivered data products (DaaS) and subscription SaaS business models
  • Prior people management experience with product teams of 3+ direct reports
  • Experience with competitive intelligence tools, PLG motions, or product-led sales enablement strategies

Spire operates a hybrid work model, and this position will require you to work a minimum of three days per week in the office.

The anticipated base salary range for this position is listed below. Final base salary for this role will be based on the location, skills, experience and qualifications. In addition to base compensation, this role may be eligible for annual equity awards and our employee benefits program, including vacation, sick, and personal time off; optional medical, dental, vision, life, and disability coverage; a 401(K) plan; health and wellness reimbursement program; and participation in Spire's Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
